Alright! I'm trying to get Escape from Monkey Island to run on my Windows 7 machine. I'm using ResidualVM (originally made for Grim Fandango) which should have some compability with the game (though they are still working on it).

The problem right now is that I can't get ResidualVM to recognise/find the game. I have the original CD-Rom version but have not been able to get Residual to recognise it from the CD or the folder on my hard-drive. I assumed at first that I'd get away with just copying the necessary files from both CDs (similar to ScummVM) but that didn't work.

So, I believe the problem is that I actually need to install Escape first before I can get Residual to recognise it. I figure this is the case since Residual's site says that the game needs the official patch to work and I can't install that either without having Escape installed as well.

My dilemma here is that I can't find the Escape from Monkey Island installer that someone made a few years ago since every MI fan-site seems to have gone down the shitter in the last five years or so. I believe International House of Mojo used to host it but I've looked and can't find it from their site.

Does anyone know of a site out there that still hosts the installer or knows some other way to get the game to install?

I added Grim Fandango working from ResidualVM to my gaming rig a couple of days ago. All I had to do was to copy the all the LAB and the Grim.TAB file from my discs to a folder for ResidualVM to recognize it. I also had to copy the patch in the same folder (I did not install it, ResidualVM recognized it as a complete patched installation). The same method should work for "installing" Escape from Monkey Island.

I've tried that and it didn't work. I've got the files for the game in a folder and ResidualVM still says it can't find any game in the "specified directory".

I'm sure I'm missing something but I can't figure out what. ScummVM could detect a game easily even just off the CD. It wouldn't necessarily run (Broken Sword and Curse definitely needed a lot of file copying) but it would at least detect the game and after that it was a simple matter of figuring out which files needed copying.

I'm wondering if I need to remove and reinstall Residual

Try this one. . Replaces the original installer and copies all necessary files to run game on newer systems. Plus, has a great new loader with many more options, such higher resolution and more. You won't need ResidualVM. Let me know if that helps.

I haven't used ResidualVM, but I think the problem is you need a daily build. From what I understand, the most stable release didn't include official support for Escape from Monkey Island, so I think you need to use one of the dailies (they're available on the same page) for the game to be recognized.

And, also from what I understand, the only thing you need to do with the official patch of the game is put it in the same location as the rest of the files.

I tried to run Escape from Monkey Island via ResidualVM (http://www.residualvm.org/). I used the most recent version of ResidualVM (compiled it myself using the latest files from their Github repo).

To run Escape from Monkey Island, you'll need all the *.m4b files as well as the Movies and the Textures directories (see http://wiki.residualvm.org/index.php/Datafiles). The GOG-Version of the game also needs currently a little workaround to work: https://github.com/residualvm/residualvm/issues/1451.

The gameplay itself seems to work just fine, even Gamepad support is there. But there are some minor issues: There is no sound in the "credits-intro". Some of the textures in the game are not displayed. Also the savegame files are not compatible with the native ones.

ResidualVM works by performing an MD5 check on a number of files, to determine that you have a good, supported, legal version.
That being said, I tested it out myself as well, and it is working fine, which means the GOG version (at least the English one) is an already supported retail version.

As for the missing sound on the intro, I'd urge you to try a daily build. If you compiled it yourself you may have missed a trick on one of the audio libraries, I remember having issues with them on Windows.
Needless to say, I've got sound in the intro with the latest daily version.

I completed the game a couple of years back with no major issues as far as I recall. There may have been some regressions since then in favor of Grim support, I've not done a playthrough in a while.

Originally, they are two 6KB files, but your suggested fix should work fine since the entries inside are ID numbered. As for a Github pull request, I'm not sure how to detect for it however, since the version is already detected and supported, and needing two files. Probably a special-case detection on one of the GOG-specific files will do the trick, to then trigger the load for the single IMT file rather than two.
There should still be about 4-5 semi-active developers on board, so I'd wager that they may pick it up soon, when they get the time.

In any case EMI is still supported only through the daily builds.

P.S. You probably need the v1.1 patch as well, it only needs to be in the same folder as Monkey4.exe.
(only the patch executable is technically required by ResidualVM, but you know what I mean)
