Hey everyone!

I'm trying to play Might and Magic 1 using the Where Are We companion, but I'm having a bit of trouble with certain elements. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1. My DOSBox window is super tiny if it's not in fullscreen, and the option in Where Are We to resize the DOSBox window isn't working (it just says it can't resize it, and asks me if I want to disable that option). Is there any other way to keep it permanently resized, but not fullscreen?

2. How can I stop notes/icons I haven't discovered from appearing in the automapper? I selected "Minimal" in the setup, but, for instance, when I went to the bar near the starting inn, a note popped up telling me the information I would get from tipping the bartender (even though I hadn't even been presented with the option to tip him yet). This kind of feels like easy mode and seems like it would spoil some of the surprises from playing. If anyone has a configuration that avoids spoilers like that, I'd love to know about it!

3. Unrelated to Where Are We, but I can't figure it out from the manual: What determines which party members are engaged in hand-to-hand combat? It seems like random people are just unable to fight in every battle, and I'm not really sure what's determining that.

Sorry if there are some obvious answers to these that I missed somewhere. Thanks a lot for the help! :)

Looks like I can’t edit anymore for some reason, but to add one more bit to question 2, I’d also like to disable the Main/Side quest tracker in the Party window, since it reveals info on quests that (as far as I know) I haven’t discovered yet.

Thanks again!
I don't think I can really help out with the questions about Where Are We. I also noticed that it would give away seemingly important hints even on Minimal settings, so I switched to using Grid Cartographer.
As for seeing which characters are in melee range, that I know. In the top left under the Combat Round # it lists 6 numbers in pairs, and this represents your parties layout. If there is a + sign by the number, then that character is engaged in melee. It changes depending on the environment you were in when you encountered the enemy. So in a tight corridor, only the first two party members would be able to fight, denoted by the + sign by the number in the upper left. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the hand-to-hand info! Combat makes a lot more sense now.

I don't know anything about Where Are We, but I do know how to change the DOSBox window size. It's a simple edit to the DOSBox configuration file for the game.

Navigate to the folder where you installed the game, and look for a file called DOSBoxMM1.conf (or similar name). Open in a text editor. Find the line labelled "windowresolution=original". Change it to any resolution you want (I recommend keeping it at 4:3 aspect ratio), e.g. "windowresolution=1280x960". Save the file.

Now when you launch the game, the window will be a new size. Note that this only works in some display modes, so you may have to change the display mode in the configuration file also (or with the little GOG utility for changing graphics mode). This is the "output" line. I think that "output=surface" does not support scaling, but other options do.
