I was playing yesterday to get to Wizard just for some fun. I did the tour of the maps, got the parts of the Golem, etc then went back to Stone City to let the King of the Dwarf know I "un-statued" his people. But I get thrown into Prison. Never happened to me before in the game. What do you have to do to get a year in prison? The game seemed to continue normally after that but I can't figure how I got there. I don't steal and avoid killing the peasants. How did I end up in the slammer?

You must've accidentally committed a crime. Happened to me a few times and wasted a a peasant or two. Only thing it affects I believe is that you've aged a year, lost -1 to all stats, and maybe some reputation loss. Nothing that will ruin your game.

So I did in a peasant? Could be. Some of those fights in a City can get messy.

You can pay fine in the place where you get Bounty Hunt assignments.

Phew... I overcooked my fish today but I'm safe and sound. Because it's an undercooked fish or an overcooked chicken which are a vicious crimes there. Phew, that was SO close...

I think I went to prison for stabbing up the griffins.

You can avoid going to the dwarf prison (if you've committed crimes) by doing the local quest in Stone City (clear the troglodytes from the lower tunnels). After that all the dwarves will love you and are willing to turn a blind eye at your past transgressions.

Or you can always just buy yourself some good karma in temple (the place that heals); just make a donation (even a little bit helps) and you will have Neutral reputation (200?) (even if you cast Armageddon in maps with cities) :)

Haha, yes, there's nothing like paying the church to forgive everything you've done. So true, even in real life!
