So I never played the might & magic series and I went ahead and bought them all in the promo (1 to 9), graphics are not an issue for me, the game engine and gameplay in general does but in the end graphics do make a game more enjoyable, with that said I could't play MM1 after I tried it, it wasn't the graphics that bothered me, MM1 was impossible to navigate because everything was the same and the game confused me, also the view distance is so small that it was a real deal breaker for me, now MM2 I can enjoy and it seems to be a big improvement over the first one, even if the view distance still bothers me, at least the navigation is much better. Issues aside, I wanted to know what fan patches, mods or fixes I should be downloading for each game before I really start playing them.

For MM1 and 2 there are no fan made patches or mods, except something to make it easier to read the text in MM1 (I managed fine without, though).

I recommend only installing the bug fixes, and not the whole mod, though, since it changes the game too much.

For MM4-5 there's there stand alone fan made scenarion Swords of Xeen.

For the later games there are more mods, but I don't have an overview of them.

Thanks, I'm really lost with so many games and so many files to download, messages are way too fast in MM1 and 2 and I can manage without them but it just isn't the same thing, I like to read what's happening.

I found it was just a matter of using the in game speed toggle combined with reducing CPU cycles from DosBox.

Edit: What version of MM9 does GoG provide? Do I have to apply a fan patch or does it come with the game already? I saw in the reviews that MM9 is not very enjoyable without these patches.

You don't need any patches or mods to enjoy the classic MM games, I wouldn't bother installing anything additional for the first 5 games and even the newer parts can be played well as they are unless you have a system with compatibility issues.

You can also edit the value in the .conf file.

For 6 and 7, definitely install the Greyface patch. It doesn't change the game, but it adds some nice modern amenities such as mouse look, quicksaves, mp3 music, etc. I think it also fixes some bugs. You should be fine playing 3-5 vanilla though, haven't tried 1&2 yet, myself.

I want to play them in order and enjoy what each can give me as if the other ones were yet to be released, because I was spoiled by Torchlight 2 and now I barely want to play the first one I got here on gog, so I don't want the same happening to M&M.

Edit: So, I found out that MM9 comes with the latest fan patch installed(neat!) and that unfortunately there is no other mods or content available for this game, the lack of care for this game from the community saddens me actually as I would like it to have been brought up to the standards of the previous ones by the fans(And looking at MM6/7/8 remake project and despite the work necessary I'm sure that would be possible.)

I've just tested Ludmeister's mod and I strongly recommend not installing it for Might and Magic 3 or World of Xeen. It will ruin your game balance and your gaming experience.

The text in MM1 is a lot faster than MM2, because it ties into your processor speed, which is WAY faster than computers were back in 1986. Fortunately, there's a fan patch for MM1 that fixes the problem. Check this thread:

For MM2, there's no fan patch, but I found that I could read the text fine. If it's still going by too fast, you can lower the cycles as others have said.

I've run into another problem, my laptop as the "#" key set by using shift+3 and I need to use the # for certain actions in MM2 but I can't figure how to use it because shoft+3 doesn't work is there any kind of keybinding?

Actually no, when at the temple to use it's services and I want to choose which character talks to the priest.

In that case you just pick a number from 1-6, corresponding to each of your party members. 1 is the leader, 2 is the second in line, etc.
