Same problem whit the Might and magic 8 as well.
on might and magic 1-6 is ok 7-8 is not :(
DeMignon: For a start, try this:
Run the game as Administrator and in Compatibility Mode (Windows XP SP3). Right-click the start icon => Properties => Compatibility.
If it doesn't work, try also forcing 640x480 resolution (also on the Compatibility tab).
Re-install DirectX 9, to make sure all older components are installed:

Something is definitely wrong with your system's 3d configuration. On Win8.1x64 I have absolutely no trouble running M&M 7&8&9 with *no* compatibility settings selected at all (I think Win8x64 is more backwards-compatible than Win7x64.)
Correction: I run the setup .exe's with admin mode & 16-bit color compatibility modes, but I run the game executables with *no* compatibility modes afterwards. This is necessary to put the games in D3d mode configuration. Remember that 7/8/9 can use 3d acceleration, while the earlier games cannot (they are all 2d games.)
Since you are getting to the 3do screen in M&M7, I need to ask if you are running the game initially from the
MM7setup.exe...? If you are, and you should be, then what does your graphics device setting say, Software mode or the name of your 3d card? If you are running in 3d mode then try setting the game to software and see what happens. It should run, which would indicates your problems are caused by a problem with your D3d configuration in your OS. If it doesn't run even in software mode, then all I can guess at is some problem with your game installation--you need to reinstall the game. BTW, M&M8 should be started with
MM8setup.exe, too, for the same reasons--to setup hardware or software mode for the game so that it either runs in 3d or in 2d (like all the earlier games.)
