The only way I can find is to just shut down the game and restart from the Inn. If I go to the Inn it will save my game. I was hoping for a single command to restart from the Inn without having to close the game.

There is none. This is an old game that wasn't really created for the PC.

It'a not that big a problem though. You'll get used to it.

Ok thanks, it's a bit of a pain restarting over and over when I am leveling my guys, but oh well. I am surprised how much I am enjoying it overall though!

Oh yes. That's the only time when you need to restart a lot. But the extra HP is something that you are going to need.

Wait I'm abit confused with this game also. I mean I played games way back when before there was windows and GUI's (well there was dos shell but yah..). I fondly remember typing /C:runblah but I Really don't remember a game this confusing haha. So you can't save your progress at all? Kinda like mario 1 on Nes, everytime you turn it on you start with nothing at the beginning?! I mean even FF1 on Nes had that hold the reset button, tap power button twice, cross your fingers, say a prayer and it'd magically save.

Also How the HELL do you close the game properly?! Only way I could find is ctrl alt del basically....

Unless you use a DosBox version with a Save States function, you can't really save the game unless you enter an Inn, in which case the party is (IIRC) automatically saved.
Of all the ancient DOS games I've played the past few years MM1 is one of only two games with which I've used the Save States version, the other game being Knights of Legend.

You absolutely CAN save your game. Signing into the inn saves your game, then you can load it and start from the inn again later. Technically what it saves are your individual characters, so each time you start you have to select which characters to take with you from the inn.

There's no full quit function on the game, the easiest way is to simply close DOSBox. if you're playing fullscreen, you can hit alt+enter to switch to windowed mode, then just use the X in the top right of the window to close DOSBox.

There is kind of a restart function. Basically run into an encounter and "block" until they kill you, which will send you back to game start without saving. You will start will the characters as they were when last you saved at the inn.

This means for the HP leveling reset...
1) Go to the inn and save.
2) Go to train.
3) Train up one character.
4a) If you like what you got for HP, go back to the inn and save.
4b) If you don't, find an encounter and die.
5) Repeat until your characters are trained.

This game is old enough, back around 286 and AT days, that the standard for most games was to just shut them off. It was the cleanest way to restart DOS.

What a convoluted way to cheat. Why not just use a DosBox with Save States?
