Topic Title:

The help in game states they increase the amount of spell points (different rates for different classes), but my experience has been that they don't really increase the spell points nearly as well as straight + spell point gear. The increase is weak enough that I would think itemizing for AC/HP/Resistances would clearly be superior than +int/personality gear.

Am I mistaken, or are there hidden effects I'm not aware of, such as higher int causing higher rolls, etc?

Outside of the obvious stat requirements for mastery of skills.

They do increase your spell points. but it is not a linear progression. They're also great for stat-based games at the circus. If they aren't taking up too much space, you should hang onto them.
I see. I'm not really interested in the circus games, I played around with them for about 30 minutes, walked away and never looked back.

At some point the diminishing returns of int/personality make their resource allocations too expensive, I feel like I've definitely hit that point, hence the question.

Throwing on a ring to get 1 extra spell point just makes no sense when I could use it to directly improve my hp/ac/resistance/spell points, etc.

Hell, I've stopped using golden touch, enchant item, or putting points into the merchant skill. At some point the money isn't worth the cost, the only time I use enchant item is on items that I *actually* use if the resulting special were a good fit.

Thanks for the input, it's solidified my thinking in terms of itemization :)

You might want to look back at some point. If you have really high stats, the stat-based games give some very nice rewards.
Yes, they do! Intellect helps you resist Insanity, and Personality helps you resist Curse. But I don't think either is a big enough deal for you to prioritize the stats in the late game.
