i found a trick back when playing mm2 back on my c64 as a kid,
(i dont yet own it from gog but its on my must buy list)

the trick is to equip a looter knife (at least i think that's was the name of the item),
or possibly any equipment tha gives thievery bonus and after leveling up
that char permanently has thievery skill and gains 1 to it every level

this of course wont work with classes that cant equp the item, but it can help for juror quests if you for whatever reason have no robber characters/hirelings available

again i dont know if this even works on the gog version, but i thought i'd throw the idea out there for all to see

anyway this is Vyr, and have a nice day

I haven't checked to see if that actually works that way in the DOS version.

However, here's another trick. Equip the Pirate's Bow for the Thievery bonus, then use up all its charges, It will break, but you won't lose the Thievery it gave you. This works for all stat boosting items that can be used up. (Unequipping the Broken Item will not cause you to lose the stat you gained.)

Yes, this does work in the gog version. I think there is a guaranteed Looter Knife in the Ice Caverns as well (just near Tundara somewhere)

Also once you have the Looter Knife equipped, you can get trained in the Sansobar caverns to increase Thievery, for a price. This will increase it permanently and you won't need the Looter Knife any more.
i always made a team of robbers for my juror's quests to join my other guys. So I really never had a problem with no thievery.

By the way, I had the C64 version, too. It had a lot of disc-swapping, but was so radically superior to the DOS version. I can't hardly play the DOS version I got here. It just doesn't spark the good memories with the art and music.

Do you happen to know what the spell "Uncurse Item" does in the C64 version, by any chance? (In the DOS version, it sets the number of charges remaining on the target item to 1, regardless of what is was before, and regardless if the item has any effect when used.)

Edit: Spell (Cleric 9-4) is called "Uncurse Item", not "Remove Curse".

I am not sure. Unfortunately, I no longer have my copy of MM2, either (or the C64 :D).

i believe it uncursed equips that were cursed (disallowing their being taken off)
