"Might and Magic 8: Day of the Destroyer is a first-person perspective role-playing game and is the last game of the series with such strong ties to its predecessors."

We are still getting M&M IX right?

What that means is 8 is the last game to have the MM6 style, 9 uses a new engine and takes place on a different world, and is unfinished.....
I, for one, would like to get MaM 9 here so I could ritually scrap that one I have, with horrible Czech dubbing. I got it with Heroes 5 (I know, I know, I am guilty of buying that abomination, but if it wasn't on sale, I would never touch it. Added MaM 9 was just something that helped to persuade me to buying it, since I wanted to try it out), otherwise I wouldn't buy the translated version.

What's wrong with Heroes V? It's pretty much just Heroes III with a new coat of paint. IV is the bad one.

And M&M IX is worse than any of the Heroes games ever even came close to being. It's right up there with Ultima IX and King's Quest VIII for most disappointing conclusions to classic series.

Eh? None of the Heroes games were bad, IV was definitely different, but it wasn't a bad game.

Well, "bad" is relative here. It's not as good as the other games in the series and happened to come right after the best, so its reputation is "the bad one." It's still fun and perfectly playable, but it's not many people's first, second or third choice for Heroes games.

Exactly that is wrong with it. If I want to play Heroes 3, I'll play Heroes 3, not some cheap-ass bastard offspring of Heroes 3, Fantasy Warhammer (the look of many units looks like ripped-off from WH) and some anime (angels wut?) with pathetic story campaign (ohai gryffin eternal!!!1") and loooong AI turns (optimalisation? what is it?). If it was a fan remake, I'd be more generous.

Yes, it has a few good things about it, like the skill perks (imbued ballista shot, etc.), however skill system's solution is stupidly done. As you know from the skillwheel, you can get certain skills/perks, if you have some another as a prerequisite. But what if you want something and the game doesn't offer you required skill? Yes, you are screwed.

Since Nival's incompetency problems are solved now (though it took them quite a few patches to get rid of both original bugs and bugs added by patches, 1.4 gating CTD bug says hai), the fact that Ubi didn't assign them on the sixth game says something, doesn't it?

i think you'll find Nival declined, as they've been rather busy with Allods Online.
9 sacrificed everything that made 6- 8 great, just to have what looked like and outdated 3d game with no humor. If you want to know what happens in 9 I suggest playing heroes 4. Some people did not like 4 for this reason or that, but unlike 9 it was still a fantastic heroes game. I have personaly disinherited 9 and consider my 3do mm and homm series complete without it!
I tend to agree with the assertion that Heroes III was a contender for "best game ever" and Heroes IV was just pretty good. As long as you don't compare IV to III its fun.
Might & Magic IX is a great game if you give it the chance. It's certainly different from the other Might & Magic games, but when it stands alone it has a great storyline and it's fun to play. I can understand that most fans didn't appreciate their favorite world, Enroth, being destroyed like that, but what exactly didn't you guys like about MM9?

The Only problem I had with, and its not really a problem, Is at the beggining at Character Creation, you had to pick Either Might or Magic and develop through quests as the game developed.
