I just installed MM6 from GOG (the Might & Might I-VI pack, if that makes a difference) on a new computer (Win10) and wanted to know which patches I need, official and unofficial for the game? I know there is a MOK’s patch and I remember hearing something about a patch from Greyface.

What does GOG already have for patches in regards to the game? What other patches are recommended (that don’t conflict with the base game)?

Finally, for anything that GOG does not have, and is still recommended, if I could be pointed in the right direction/best location on where to attain the patch(es), it would be much appreciated.

I want to say I am not very computer saavy so anything that requires me to change file names or do very specific actions is not preferable. Basically, hoping the patches (or patches) will find the right location where to install on their own.

GOG's version already includes all the official patches.

The single unofficial patch that you might want is Grayface. It already includes MOK's patch

Note that the GOG version is very playable as it is. So depends on if you're a purist and want to play the game as it was or don't mind the extra convenience Grayface's patch introduced. I personally never used it but from what I heard it's very good.

I’ve played the game in it’s original format already (waaay back), so I want to give a try to the updated version with Greyface’s.

Looking at Greyface’s site, it shows his most recent patch (2.4?) indicates it has MOK’s patch included. But GOG’s version already has MOK’s patch, right? How will that work? With both having MOK’s patch?

As far as I'm aware, GOG version doesn't use the MOK patch, if it has ever used it. Or at least that's what ZFR and others told me when I asked, since I was trying to find out if the GOG versions are "pure" or have additions. Only MMIX contains the unofficial patches (not by Greyface) that fix some critical, game-freezing bugs. You can learn more about that by searching for MMIX in this forum.

Greyface patch does a lot though, like adding quicksaves, tweaking sprites and changing things like how items are stacked in chests etc. and sometimes his fixes introduce new bugs, so they're fixed in the next patch or following ones. For example "My bug: Enchant Item and Golden Touch spells were bugged, effected by PaperDollInChests option.". So I'd recommend reading the full changelog before deciding if that's how you want to play it, since you might actually want some of the things GF patched out (like the triple damage bug that causes daggers to have 10% chance to do it at Expert, not just GM level).

Also, a lot (though not all) of the changes introduced by Grayface can be toggled on/off in the ini file.

I'm not 100% sure about MOK to be honest. GOG might have included it. [-] means a bug was fixed.
"My bug" next to it means that it was a bug that he introduced in a previous version but is fixed now.
The ones without "my bug" mean that the bug was present in the original game.

As far as I can tell, he’s fixed all of the bugs he’s introduced. However, the fact he has never listed bugs he’s caused (besides when they have been fixed), I am not sure.

Greyface's patch already includes MOK's, so if you want to use GF's patch, don't use Mok's. He used to state on his site that if you're planning to use GF, don't install the Mok patch, maybe it's still there.

And yes, exactly, that's one of the reasons why I don't really want to use GF's patches anymore - you never know what his patches could've broken until you come across it and he's been adding tons of new fixes I don't want, like changing how much treasure spawns in treasure chests by modifying the treasure placement.

Yeah, the question wasn't whether I should download and install MOK's patch with GF's, it was whether GF would conflict with GOG, as GOG already has MOK's patch installed.

But from people I've spoken to have said they have installed GF's patch on GOG and have been able to do so without issue. I agree, it would be nice if we knew what new bugs there were to help us decide whether we want to DL GF's patch or not, but for what it offers I want to give it a shot. Nevermind the fact I have played the vanilla already and want to see how the changes play out. Right, I saw that and was referring to that 'legend'. But still doesn't tell me what bugs are currently presently. So I can only (hopefully) assume they have been fixed.

Right, I misunderstood that, I thought you were asking what you just stated. No, there shouldn't be any issues with the GOG version. I've played only the CD versions with the GF patch, but everyone else is using it without any issues, since presumably MM6 and 7 doesn't contain the MOK patch anymore, if it ever did.

I think he probably listed some bugs that have appeared in earlier versions, but right now most seem fixed - it would be nicer if he did write what were all those "bugfixes" he mentions.

Btw the vanilla game used to have a bug where the Torch spell (or Light, it makes light in dungeons, I forgot the name) stops working when you reload a game, so if you saved and then loaded a game, the Torch spell would be expired. Can you check if it's still present in the latest GF patch when you play with it? I know it was still present around 2011, so I'm curious if has been fixed or not.

I downloaded GF’s patch last night and everything looks good. I know he has that HD pack, but I will be honest I am not sure how to implement it as I believe there are a number of steps I need to go in and make changes to the files. I think I will just deal with how the game is.

Wow, LOVE that Mouselook option! Makes moving around so much smoother/easier. I just need to get used to holding down the right button when I want to move the mouse cursor to select things.

Love MM6, as well as MM7, but there is something special about MM6. Maybe it’s because it’s the first MM I’ve played? But I haven’t played another RPG of it’s kind and truly miss it.

Yes, will try out the Torch Light spell and see if that will be fixed. If I remember correctly, I can get that spell right away so I can let you know maybe tonight.

Actually, thinking of starting over (as I really haven’t done anything yet). I think I will start up a thread on what others suggest for a party, or their favorites. I have one I already like to play, but curious to see what others say, I may change my mind. :)
