I'm a M&M rookie, currently playing M&M1, just got the Ruby Whistle, and I was thinking I'm not a big fan of the Robber. Mostly because of his fighting abilities, I thought that maybe I'll remove the class from my party in future installments.

That's why I would like to know how important is the robber in other M&M games? If there are some main quest doors or other features that forcefully require a Robber in your party, I will still include it, but if not, I will definitely choose Ninja or no "robber based" class at all.

In MM2 the Robber is unique in not having their own class quest, but can join all the other classes in their class quests.

IIRC there are also some unique items for Robbers and they have the Backstab ability. Ninja have the Critical Hit ability, though.

That's good, I was thinking of importing my Robber to M&M2 when I'm done with Book 1 anyway.

The robber becomes much more powerful in later games by getting multiple attacks per round, so his fighting abilities become much better.

The Robber is pretty important in MM1 as he's the only class than can disarm traps on chests. Without one, Black Boxes are most often a Total Party Kill when the trap goes off. Later games, the Ninja is a decent enough substitute. At the very least, if you try to go Robber-less, you will need every protection spell up just to open chests and hope for the best.
