After the franchise transitioned from Enroth to ... several worlds? gods appeared left&right.

But gods were not part of the franchise's lore up till then, they don't even make much sense in the setup.

What are "gods" (more like dieties, I assume there are some godesses too somwhere) in the (H)M&M universe?

I've not played the later games, they fell off my radar for various reasons, but the games are so much on the sale nowdays, I came to adress the issue.
Someone can help out?

Might and Magic 3 has mention of a deity; there are a few dungeons that don't allow saving, and if you try to save, you'll get a message saying that the "Gods of Game Restoration" don't permit it.

That's a meta-joke, and doesn't explain what dieties are ingame.

There are references to gods in MM6 (or was it 7) when you talk to some of the civilians. I can't remember the details, it was a long time since I played it but I remember it since I was interested in this topic too.

I think it was a reference to godess of rebirth/spring/life or something similar.

Also: I think you meant "deities". Dieties is something you go on when you want to lose weigtsies.

Having stats does not necessarily make something killable. See Lord British in the Ultima series; even if he is killable in some of the games (due to developer oversight or, later in the series, deliberate scripting), it is not because of him having stats. Ultima 3 NES's Lord British has stats, and you can fight him, but you can't actually kill him; even the instant death spell does "only" 255 damage.

By the way, I actually do believe MM2's Mega Dragon is not intended to be killable, due to having physical immunity and the maximum possible magic resistance. MM5's, however, is intended to be killable due to having "only" 90% physical resistance (and there's an MM4 weapon you can import that ignores resistance, anyway).

It actually used to be pretty phonemic during Middle English (1066 till 16th century). The biggest culprit why it no longer is so is the Great Vowel Shift, when pronunciation changed rapidly (but spelling remained relatively unchanged).

It's an interesting topic.

There is also a theme of various temples throughout the series: Yak, Moo, Baa, Eep, Sun, Moon

It also has a large amount of HP, almost as much as the Mega Dragon.

The difference, of course, is that the Orc God is meant to be beatable, though the only feasible glitchless way of doing so is to use Mass Distortion. If there's a large number of them, then it's probably best to run away and try for an encounter that can be beaten in a reasonable amount of time.

(This is in contrast to the Mega Dragon, which I believe was not intended to be beatable in MM2 as I mentioned earlier.)

Typical case of "if it has stats, we can kill it".

The phrase is coming from the player-side, and does not care for the intention of the DM.

Though the creature is a quest-monster which an NPC is supposed to beat, but given the developers added an EXP-value, this created - intentionaly or not - some freedom in the solution.

Baa at least wasn't a real god, but set up by the Kreegans.

Though given the mythology, the whole Ancients vs Kreegans arc, it could well be possible all "gods" are fake.
