Last week I adquired M&M LE and instantly began playing M&M VI.
Now one week later with a 23rd level party I´m getting bored of simply slashing each time more porwerful monsters.
I miss a plot, a deep history, ...
Could someone give some ideas to re-activate my interest in finishing this game?
MMVI is a real monster slashing fest, not that much that can be done about that. I suppose you could try and *avoid* combat as a challenge. Sneak and run past enemies and do not engage.
Take a break for a bit. Try not to force yourself to finish it if you are really not enjoying it.
If you want the deep history, start with an earlier title and watch the series develop technologically and via it's own lore over time.

Actually I´m thinking seriously to take a break.
I like the idea of starting from the very beginnig of the M&M series ...
Maybe I will give it a try ...
Thanks!
Hm - deep Story? Well, I like the plot of the council, the quests to get the trust of each single important leader (Humphrey etc.), the treachery etc.
Afterwards the real quest starts - I think it's actually fairly well constructed. Did you find Carlagon's dairy, did you follow the information on how Roland fought and what finally lead to the Succession Wars (HOMM2 !!) ... hm, no - I never got bored by this world, or maybe I am easier to satisfy ;)

I think that in my particular case what makes me getting bored it's not the world, not the interface it's just the way of gaming. I mean that what tires me is the way the plot is revealed: 'Go there ... kill, kill, kill ... and return me the One Ring ...'. In others RPG like Ultima or Planescape you can resolve a quest or find a hint just interacting with PNJ, solving puzzles, being smart, not only figthing.
I don't have any problem with M&M indeed i like this wolrd (that's why I bought the game) maybe the problem it's me.
For me an RPG must be more than raising levels and buying equipment ... that's why Diablo it's not an RPG :)

Agreed - Diablo started a new genre ... I don't count it a rpg either.
Hm but back to MM6 - I got to admit that killing a whole lot of monsters is your main job. And even worse: one year after termination, all the little ones are there again (they are simply annoying later in that game).
But there are sparkles of hope: solving that weather thingy or drinking from the dwell ... or the dungeons & key puzzling. Nah: it doesn't reach Ultima - agreed again, but it's well made fun for a working guy like me who wants to relax a bit after work by hearing an audio book and playing MM6... something to distract the mind and my hands ;)

Mmm, maybe that´s the point relaxing killing some "bad guys" :)

Do the words rogue and like mean anything to you? Just saying that's what Diablo is, a very good Roguelike.
But i agree with starting from the beginning, prepare the graph paper for the first two.

It's not for everyone. Not a whole lot changes from where you are now till the end really. If you're not liking it now, you won't like it any better later, no matter how you tackle the game.
I found Might and Magic 6 to be less interesting than the others, especially in the late game, when it REALLY becomes endlessly chipping away at monsters. I'd recommend the earlier games... while they are still focused on combat and dungeons, they are also filled with devious traps and nasty surprises and all sorts of other things to keep it interesting.
I'm playing through the first game right now (I've only ever played 4, 5 and 6 before) and it's also quite a bit different from the Xeen games, so if the first two games aren't your thing, try 3-5. However, I am enjoying the first game quite a bit. But yes, you have to make your own maps for it. The other thing that's cool about it is that I am now learning a lot of background things that ended up getting referenced in game 6; for instance the starting town in the first game is Sorpigal, which is in Pleasant Valley. In game 6 you will encounter New Sorpigal, also located in a place called Pleasant Valley. Then there are a lot more details but I don't want to spoil anything. I used to think that the games were largely unconnected form one another (with the exception of 4 and 5 that merge into one game) but now I am realizing that there's actually some loose connections that make the series more interesting.
If you do try the first game, check out the recent thread about a patch that fixes the text speed. It's awesome, and it means you don't have to lower your cycles in DOSBox until the game is horribly slow.
I found a great way to alleviate the boredom. I hacked my saves to give me huge experience, money, and skill points. Where I was previously wasting a lot of time with hack-n-slash, run away to heal, and back into the fray, now I just walk through enemies spamming the A button and can actually get on with the story!

Bored with MM6 but like the M&M game system? Tired of the same old story and monster bashings? Then give The Choas Conspiracy a-go!
The Chaos Conspiracy is a two-part fantasy/adventure game that uses the original Might and Magic VI game engine. Part 1 uses the original MM6 map world. Part 2 uses a newly created map world. The Part 1 adventure takes place in the vast world of Nimradur; a land of diverse topology, realms, populations, myths, customs, and ‘creatures’. The central game plot is unique, unfolds in nine ‘chapters’, and is supported by a plethora of local challenges.
Part 1 of the game has been extensively play tested both in the Alpha and Beta stages of development, and is now released to the Might and Magic Community at-large in its final version.
Part 1 of The Chaos Conspiracy contains a completely new main storyline, quests and subquests, dialogs, many new and/or imported graphics, and new weapon and creature stats. The game-start and game-dne video sequences are new and reflect the new game as presented in both Part 1 and Part 2..
TCC Part 2 is not your standard RPG-adventure game, nor is it your conventional MM game. Rather it is a game of Discovery and of Exploration. In TCC Part 2, you will enter a world unknown and uncivilized: no maps, no villages, no towns; only Creation in its rawest of forms. A single quest drives you onward through this land, as you gather clues from nature and progress towards the end. Your only guide will be your journal of notes, and your only chance of survival will be your wits, your might, and your magic.

Sound tempting! Thanks for the hint.
