How are your temps? Do you use a custom fan profile? This error is usually caused by overheating.

It's a TDR
Although overheating has often been the cause I know for a fact that when I get a TDR it's not from overheating. DirectX 11 games have given me fits. I wanted to buy this Metro game but I hesitate because it's DX11. I've tried the latest drivers for my GTX580 but nothing seems to help.

Here's more info:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/389688/geforce-drivers/nvidia-statement-on-tdr-errors-display-driver-nvlddmkm-stopped-/

Here's the important info from the page:
Common issues that can cause a TDR:

•Incorrect memory timings or voltages

•Insufficient/problematic PSU

•Corrupt driver install

•Overheating

•Unstable overclocks (GPU or CPU)

•Incorrect MB voltages (generally NB/SB)

•Faulty graphics card

•A badly written driver or piece of software, but this is an unlikely cause in most cases

•Driver conflicts

•Another possibility that people tend not to like to hear, is that you are simply asking too much of your graphics card. What I mean by this, is that if you have your settings too high and the graphics card struggles and falls to very low FPS, then something graphically complex occurs, the GPU may not be able to respond and a TDR error may occur

•Some users have experienced TDR errors whilst browsing the web with the 280.xx, 285.xx and 290.xx drivers. Please head to this link to clarify if this is relevant to you - this is quite a specific issue which seems to predominantly affect web browsing as opposed to gaming. There are no categoric fixes but some users have found that changing the power management mode to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' has helped.

As you can see this was written a long time ago.
I know I didn't solve your problem but I thought you'd like some explanation on what's going on.

I've included a screenshot after using the Metro benchmarks and included the test settings, my motherboard/videocard/cpu temperatures.

I chose settings that were higher than the one I played to stress my PC.

I hope this helps.

*I should note that I've played the original metro 2033 along with other fairly resource heavy games with no problems .

That is probably the case. I doubt I can get this to run which is a shame since I really enjoyed the series.

Ya those temps look fine to me. In my experience that error has always been me forgetting to turn my fans up. So I can't really give you any solid advice.

However what I can suggest is to run Driver Sweeper found here

http://www.guru3d.com/content-page/guru3d-driver-sweeper.html

then re-install your Nvidia drivers. If that doesn't work it's beyond anything I've dealt with.

I'd start there before doing anything with the registry.

I was able to find this online. Post #4 shows his solution. I'm not saying you should do this, just trying to give you some more info. If you do try this solution, make sure to take note of what you changed so you can change it back if it creates more issues.

** Also, contact GOG support. They might be able help more with something like this.

I'm having this problem too. A little odd, considering the game was running at a perfectly playable frame-rate through the auto-config settings - but perhaps my poor old 550ti just can't handle the strain.

I *was* thoroughly engrossed in the 10 or so minutes I had played of 2033, so this is definitely to something to save for when I decide to build a new PC.
