So
installed the pc enhanced edition and the two DLCs:

I obviously exceed all minimum requirements

dual 3090 rtx NvLink / SLI
1.5TB of ram
dual xeon 8280M (56 cores)
Latest windows, latest nvidia drive
r

BUT
At game start up I get this error message:

Error message:
"Graphic device does not support dx1.1 or above"

and crashes

WHAT am I possibly missing? and why does it do a system check if it can't understand the hardware?

feels like a rip and poor implementation

It's obvious that with the given specs it can't work, since nvidia removed SLI support.

https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/315164-dual-gpu-gaming-gives-up-the-ghost-as-nvidia-ends-sli-support

Try it with one card.

Also remove 47 ofg your 48 ram banks and try to reinstert them one after one. See if that makes a difference :)

Thx, I don't know why I didn't think of that?! ;)

I'm asking broadly if anyone knows of a way (.ini. , xml etc) to gimp, override, fool, or write in the system check so that it doesn't cascade.
Right now, If I say yes to the warning prompt it just proceeds and crashes.

of course the real fix has to come from the developers, but I hold little stock in them actually doing anything,

When I saw the PC Enhanced version, all I could thing of was "Spaceballs 2, the search for more money!"

thx

Some googling led to this video, not sure if enhanced edition is susceptible as well.
Use it at your own risk and do extra googling for any additional info.
Hi, just to prvent nice folks from looking at the problem from the wrong end:

I removed 1 of the 3090 just to see, and I still get the same error.

So

the issues is that the game is looking for something specific that its not getting answered.

My OS is further along than their BARE MINIMAL, MY HARDWARE IS ALSO FURTHER ALONG THAN THEIR BARE MINIMUM.

ISTHERE A WAY TO DISABLE THE SYSTEM CHECK FROM THE GAME OR TO WRITE IT IN A CFG, INI, XML, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF

I apologize for the capitals, i was on the wrogn case on my set

I assume that at the moment you want to turn off the SLI mode? See the link for detailed instructions.
1. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel from the drop-down menu or click the NVIDIA icon in the Systray.
2. Once you've opened the NVIDIA Control Panel, click the Set SLI configuration link under the 3D settings menu.
NVIDIA Control Panel
3. Finally, select either Do not use SLI technology or Enable SLI technology (recommended) to toggle SLI on or off.
the issue is not sli, its turned off for the test anyhow.
and there really isnt SLI for the 3090s anyhow.

The issue happens also in my wife's pc and that has only one 3090 in it.

The only thing they have in common is high core count, high ram amount,
I think in this case talking to the developers is the best thing to do though they might tell you how you should not game on your workstation.

Are you using Windows LTSC? Because it says that your system doesn't support DXR 1.1(Direct X Ray Tracing 1.1). It was added to Windows last year and the LTSC version only gets feature updates every couple of years so it would not have it
On my PC I am using MS Server data center 2019, but on my wife's PC there is windows 10 latest. In both scenarios I get the same message.
Both machines have lots of cores and ram. She has a single 3090 rtx, but gets the same message,

There are some other things, but I hope that no one stooped so low as to make the game that backwards, these things should not affect it, however:

Microsoft Store is turned off on both PCs.
Telemetry is turned off on both PCS
Page file is not used on both pcs (set to zero)

These are not hacks, they are done though group policy, etc.

I would hope that the game was not written that specific or need things like the ms store.

Maybe change the page file to a set 1GiB as a test? Usually not recommended for a pc (so talking server/workstation) to turn the page file completely off no matter how much RAM you have. I think you could even make a RAM drive for it to circumvent an unwillingness to have it write to your hard drive.
Thank you

so I set page file to "automatic", turned on MS store.

Events: same error

tried it on the driver that came out last night and on her PC (win 10 latest) it went to a black screen that was resolved by control alt delete task manager and end game process. Yes, that is a slightly different behavior, but can't seem to make it go.

on overclockers.net forum seems that a lot of folks are having the same issue.

I even tried to limit cpu affinity, but the result is unchanged
I tried running it in high and then real time, but result is unchanged
Ii was installed originally on the D drive (raid on both PCs) so I tried installing it to the C: drive, but its unchanged
I tried making sure it had full read write permissions to the target folder, unchanged
I tried turning on indexing, situation unchanged

I put in a VM of generic windows 10 latest, allocated 16GB of virtual GPU, 8 cores, and only 64gb of ram, - game went to launch, and froze, exit to same error message.

I am running out of tricks to try, I am resolved that best efforts have not yielded a positive result so I might just pass on this game. I've already played it, I was just interested on what if any the better visuals would be.

I've only had to pass on something once before for similar issues, Red Dead Redemption 2 just would not go, despite all efforts. It ran, it launched, it displayed for a few seconds, it froze.

So this is the 2nd game that has given me a fit. But all the rest are fine and work well.

Thank you for trying to help.

jayventuri: win 10 latest
What exactly do you mean by that? No updates are available to install?

The reason I'm asking is because every googling result leads to a single reason:
You need WDDM 2.7 which requires Windows 10 2004 (or later)
To check current Windows version:
Win+R -> cmd -> winver
If you have 1909 or below version there, then you know the problem.

There is also a WDDM version check:
1. Press the Win + R keys to open Run, type dxdiag into Run, and click/tap on OK to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
2. In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click/tap on a Display tab you want to check.
3. In the Drivers section, the WDDM version (ex: "WDDM 2.6") will be to the right of Driver Model.

If a PC will not update Windows 10, your best bet might be a total reinstallation.
