Hello! This is fantastic to have MGS1 from GOG! I'm not sure how feasible the following additions would be, but if we also had these graphical options available, it would bring the game more in line with how it looked on the PS1.
1) the ability to turn OFF bilinear/trilinear filtering, allowing to instead use nearest/point filtering. MMM it would look great! sharp pixels instead of blurry textures!
Here are several screenshots that use a method listed in this forum related to the widescreen hack but that also allows to turn off bilinear filtering. Notice the sharp pixels. It seems MGS was INTENDED to be shown this way since it's more akin to pixel art than, say, a downsized blurry photo. I can't post the link apparently, but it's "Metal Gear Solid 1 on GOG Looks Best WITHOUT Bilinear Filtering" on imgur by me.
It would be great if everyone could experience this clean texture filtering by default, or at least with a simple mouse click, instead of having to jump through any hoops.
2) dithering option.
3) affine textures - like how while crawling in a vent, the wall textures warp toward the camera when close enough. a classic PS1 graphical problem worth bringing back!
4) integer vertex snapping, like how when a character moves their vertices kind of wobble around unnaturally. great stuff! I THINK maybe I've been seeing this in the game, but it would be great to make it more pronounced.
5) then of course, basic things like official widescreen support without stretching or black bars, ability to turn off letterboxing in cutscenes like how the Substance V fix thing does it.
and finally, a more visually similar pause/options menu, ie, having that pause menu's graphics look more like Snake's codec, or something else that doesn't feel "tacked on" visually. (for all I know Konami made this menu.)
Anyway, I have no idea how feasible any of these things are, but my absolute TOP request is turning off texture filtering/bilinear/trilinear, so we can get sharp pixels in the textures instead of a blur.
also occasionally a random triangle in a mesh will just not be visible, but this is just a visual oddity.
Anyway, keep up the amazing work!
PS: There's a Unity plugin that allows developers to make their games to look like garbage just like the PS1. it's on the Unity Asset store and is called PSXEffects. I am excited to use that plugin to make my games look like garbage, too. and MrKravin is a great youtuber who plays lots of ps1 style indie horror games. anyway, in case anyone cares!
