Just a curious question as I'm aware the original 2000 release was pretty bad conversion of the PS1 original. Is the GoG version enhanced in anyway in terms of fixing the issues with the original or is it the same. If anyone knows that would be great.

Yep, it's the same one you get in 2000

I heard there's a fan patch for this. I found a reddit link but it looks like its the full game; I just wanna patch the GoG version, anyone know what to do?

Installing that patch works the same as if you had the retail CD. You'll see the patch author wrote "Retail CD owners, can Install using original game CD, Download this package and install in same directory." Download the package and run the .exe file, point the installer to your GOG install path. This should work to patch the game.
I guess it was way too much to expect Konami to put in the effort and port the HD Collection release on PC. That would've been the right thing to do.

Guess I still have my Vita copy, but itd be nice to play it on a big screen and gamepad.

It's not exactly the same. They fixed some compatibility issues that the game used to have (so it works out of the box now pretty much) and, most notably, made the FMV segments during cutscenes work.

Otherwise it's perfectly fine as a port, it works well, even though it's barebones.

Okay thats good to know thanks. Did they also fix the music in this version? I was told in the past that the 2000 release had poor quality music.

Unfortunately I don't think that patch fixes the pressure sensitive functionalities. Thats the downside with MGS2 & 3 on other platforms because only PS2 & 3 controllers have pressure sensitive buttons.

I didn't play too far in the GOG release, but so far it plays fine, I could easily adjust my control (can play perfectly fine on keyboard), everything works and play well.

Which really makes me wonder, why there are so many opinions how bad is the original PC port. Unless all those issues were noticeable when playing on the PC from that year/period.

I remember hearing that the PC version, despite some cutbacks because PC hardware at the time couldn't do things the original PS1 did (e.g. motion blur effects) and had to make some gameplay changes to work with PC (spoiler: the Psycho Mantis fight), it did improve the visuals and smoothed out the in-game textures, plus added the ability to save at almost any time without having to call Mei-ling for that.

Not sure about the music, I played this version on my laptop and the speakers/earphones I used really didn't do the sound quality any favors. What I can say is that it is missing the Konami tune that played during the startup, which is the same as the original Integral version, so if there were issues on the front they probably didn't get fixed either. I assume the sound quality hasn't improved, but then I cleared it on PC back then too, and I honestly didn't notice any huge difference in the sound quality vs the PS1 version.

The japanese-only PS1 release of Integral already ommited the Konami jingle (Which really is the Policenauts jingle really...)

Ah, I see.
I quickly went back to test things and I definitely noticed that the Evasion music seems to be missing (the regular Alert theme keeps playing during the evasion phase), so it's probably safe to assume the situation hasn't changed elsewhere with previously missing music.
