This is bad-ass... just got the e-mail from GOG for the original Metal Gear... the same one I used to play on my NES back in the day (or apparently a better version of it).

Where's Snakes Revenge? I'm not seeing that anywhere?

Never played the SOLID ones... but I'll check them out.

So much memories. In the 1980s... I used to call that long distance number, the NES support line to figure out how to beat different levels of the game. Damn, Metal Gear was so awesome when I was a kid...

Snake's Revenge was an NES exclusive and was never considered a canonical entry in the series. I am hopeful for Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake though, which was a direct sequel to the MSX Metal Gear and FAR superior to Snake's Revenge.

The MSX version is indeed much superior to the MSX Metal Gear

And if you've never played the Solid series you really should, they're fantastic

Oh wow, I had no idea! Is there any discussion about potentially getting this one on GOG? I assume maybe it's a rights thing as to why it's not here yet.

For the record, I did like Snakes Revenge. I recall crawling through the sewers and stuff.

The whole thing seemed really 80s to me. The Snake looked like the guy from the original Terminator (Reese), and the Maj who would call you on the walkie talkie looked like the Col from Rambo First Blood Part 2 that got Rambo out of jail.

Man, I miss the 80s... would totally go back if someone would give me a time machine.
Snake's Revenge was an NES exclusive game (Hideo Kojima had no involvement in it) and it is not really scene as canon. There are many differences as well between the NES version and the version being sold here so it will be a fresh experience.

Snake's Revenge is a weird game which has nothing to do with Kojima. I bet he does not even consider it cannon.

It honestly sounds like you might actually be talking about Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, not Snake's Revenge. lol I'm not actually sure. Snake's Revenge is a very mixed opinions game. But MG2:SS was the one where you called Colonel Campbell and he looked a lot like Colonel Trautman from Rambo. You go through sewer areas on both games lol so I don't know on that one. But yeah, you sure it was Snake's Revenge you played?

Yeah, definitely Snakes Revenge on the NES. I never owned a Metal Gear Solid game (I mean, I will in a few minutes when I buy the whole series on GOG). But yeah... it was a long time ago. I mean, almost 30 years, so I can't say I remember. I'd thought about getting the Metal Gear Solid game back when I saw it coming out, but I wasn't really playing games during that time.

That's awesome! I had no idea! I *loved* the game on the NES. I remember most of it too... which I won't say here for spoilers, but it's literally been 28-29 years since I played it on the NES. Man it was such a good game.
Never mind Snake's Revenge, but if you take a look at the NES version of Metal Gear 1 to refresh your memories you'll also notice that it's actually a pretty bad port of the original MSX version. (The one included here.) with worse level design, missing features, worse graphics etc.
