habla2k: Has anyone tried MGS2 with a DS3 Pad? Does it work with pressure sensitive buttons?

I know the xbox pad doesn't have those buttons, but the ds3 pad has and its possible to use it on pc, just not sure if the mgs2 pc port will support it.
It won't work with either GOG vanilla version or the MGS2 V's Fix (fan patch) because DS3 controllers are already difficulty to get working due to not supporting Xinput and the vanilla version only looks for Dinput signals.

Not that hard, i followed a wiki howto yesterday and got it working with SCP Toolkit easily. It acts like an xbox 360 Pad afterwards. I just don't know, if the pc port hast the code to use the pressure sensitive buttons. i know it works with pcsx2 and the ps2 game.
Not sure if it's a bug or what it is, but certainly annoying.

For me, controllers works pretty well after mapped the buttons to my wish. What I am experimenting is that, when using an XBOX 360 controller for PC, moving with the arrow keys at any direction just works, except when I try to move to any combined direction like south-east in the controller arrows. Seems that the game is not detecting when you push both the arrow down and arrow right or the area that it is in between (Actually this happens with all combined directions). Snake just stops and makes the game hard to play.

I would like to second this. This is currently my only major issue with this port when running the game in software mode. I think the original port was like this, but I would REALLY like it if gamepads were able to input diagonal movement like how the keyboard can. The lack of diagonal movement is especially cumbersome when trying to get past the lasers to retrieve the PSG1 in the armory.
There seems to be some cutscenes that still suffer from random performance problems such as a couple of Psycho Mantis' cutscenes later into the game, with or without subtitles enabled.

why not just use the stick? works well with it. there is another Post on here, where someone mapped the arrow keys on the d-pad, that way it seems to work too. Look here: https://www.gog.com/forum/metal_gear_series/dualshock_4_dpad_metal_gear_solid

It initally didn't occur to me to use the analog stick since I'm generally D-pad-centric with MGS1, mea culpa. That other solution seems to be interesting, I'll try that.

Using the stick is a good workaround, but exactly that, for me and other players it's just a workaround and when you are not used to it, it's an adapting curve that messes up with the playing experience and gameplay at that moment. I remember that the PSX version allowed you to move in diagonal. For many of us is just better to play with the arrow buttons, and it's a basic feature for such old games (and some new ones).
I would appreciate a lot if this caveat could be reviewed.
support for DPad added to MG (MSX)

How can you be not used to using a Stick? Since PS2 times, every pad uses sticks. What have you been doing the last 20 years? :D

We don't mean in general. Specifically when playing games like MGS1 or the early Resident Evil games, we prefer using the d-pad for movement. The analog stick is a perfectly functional workaround, but the difference in feedback messes up our muscle memory. The antimicro workaround works like a charm, but it would have been nice if Integral was able to support the diagonal d-pad movement natively.

AnastielBR: I was only able to play using the controller by starting the game through steam, in non-steam games, the gog galaxy client doesn't recognize my ps4 dualshock, even using DS4Windows, is there any solution? for the launcher to recognize control?
Hello, I'm having the same issue trying to set-up my PS4 controller with MGS2. Did you find a fix for this? Everytime I edit the settings withing game settings, the settings seems like they save, but nothing changes when playing the game. Controller was fine for MGS.
I'm using a Direct Input controller and I'm running into a strange issues. With the Switch Pro Controller L3 acts as a way to lower your weapon while aiming with a pistol but when switching to my 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ which has the ability to change to Dinput and Xinput, in Dinput mode L3 becomes another way to look in first person and through a lot of trial and error, rebinding all the controls it will not stop being another method of first person mode instead of lowering the weapon my previous Pro Controller could do. So even with a Dinput controller you're going to get mixed results.

Exactly that. Thanks for explaining it.

Yes, it's a little strange that MGS has full DS4 support (with Bluetooth and everything), but MGS2 seems to have none at all.
