I finnally own a PC powerful enough to play games from the last 10 years, and I was excited to use a joystick in a giant robot game, you know as god intended. Now I know that I'll never get to replay the Earth Siege games or GNOME, but a new Mechwarrior game, sign me up. But alas, i cant seem to figure out how to make this joy stick work.
the game doesn't work on Joystick and was made for consel

to be clear, you can have a joystick and the game will detect it but the controls are chrap [unplayable] and there isn't any way to fix this

i have this game, i really wanted to love it but no Joystick = epic fail
The joysticks do work with the game, but the gameplay itself is not very well optimized for it sadly. You will find the gameplay is easier with mouse and keyboard.

In the game controls menu you can set up the buttons to the actions you want. I'm using an old thrustmasater and It works from the game menu to set the buttons. Alternatively if that is not working for you you can customize it in the HOTASMappings.Remap file.
I've always used joystick for MechWarrior. I'm using Logitech extreme 3d pro and have configured it in game settings. I combo it with the keyboard and mouse depending on the situation. In the mech it works fine for me. In main menu and walking in the dropship I use keyboard mouse. I'm sure they could have optimized joystick compatibility better, but most games today are geared towards consoles. Unfortunately for us PC guys.

But the question is why do we have to do this? I've purchased numerous games off of GoG that were far cheaper that work with Joysticks straight out of the box. Then I buy this game and it doesn't work worth a crap straight out of the box. I feel like they ought to try and release a patch of some kind to fix these issues. I've been playing Mechwarrior games on the PC since they first came out (yes, I'm an older gamer) and feel like they've really let us down.

yep, this is the right question...
too often important things are missing in games, but we have very strange times today ...

because the dev team didn't do their job... pure incompetence considering how many other MW games managed it
