My 2 cents: Possible solution for the Direct3D version for Nvidia graphic cards is to switch to older driver versions (probarly also the case for ATI graphic cards). So look on google for "ddfix - Timeslip's Oblivion utilities and mods" for a explination.
Quote Timeslip:
"On DX10 hardware from both nvida and amd, it appears to be rendered in 8 bit colour due to removed dithering support, and since the 169.xx driver revision it has become completely unplayable. nvidea or amd are utterly uninterested in spending manpower on fixing older games, so it's seems its fallen to me to get thief looking like its old self again."
So switching to a older driver version should resolve the problem, as it did for me (i had terrible performance issues with MDK... hehe), Geforce Go 7600, mobile driver that worked 163.75 (I also tried versions above that, like the 165.x but it didn't work). I've also read that for normal desktop Nvidia graphic cards version 169.02 works but I cannot verify that. You can get old Nvidia drivers at http://laptopvideo2go.com/
PS. this should also solve problems with other older games, for example my Dungeon Keeper Gold Edition works perfect again (also had the same performance issues on this one). And I run Win XP, so it also works for DirectX9!
I played through MDK at work today on a Lenovo U110 tiny notebook today with no graphics problems. I installed MDK to my Intel desktop with Win 7 Pro 64, GeForce 9800 GT when I got home and the textures flicker. None of the solutions here work. Stupidness.

denilsonsa: Hey, thanks for this solution! Using glide wrapper, plus the 3dfx version from GCW works almost perfectly!

I say "almost", because... although the graphics are okay, they are not full screen. They are centered in the middle of my laptop screen, with black borders all around it. It looks like the entire desktop has been resized to 640x480, but is being rendered in the middle of my 1280x800 display.
I have the same thing happen with the out-of-the-box Steam version of the game. I think that might just be the default game view - the full screen is 640x480 but the game image is 512x384, same as Outcast.

Edit: Actually just took a look at your photo and yours is much more extreme, so yeah it's likely your laptop does not know how to resize to 640x480.

pkt-zer0: So, as far as I know, the GOG version of the game only has options for Direct3D and software rendering, but the 3dfx version works very nicely with emulator drivers as well. Better graphics than software rendering, and if you've had no luck with the other rendering options, this gives you another chance.

First off, install a Glide wrapper, so your video card can masquerade as a 3dfx one and work with all the old games that use Glide. Get one here. Installation is pretty straightforward.

Next, get the 3dfx patch for MDK from this site. This contains the 3dfx version of the executable, which you should simply extract to the game's directory, and run. (Keep in mind I don't actually have the version GOG distributes, so I'm not sure whether or not the official patches work with the copy protection removed.) If all goes well, now you should be playing MDK with hardware accelerated graphics and no graphical glitches.

In any case, I'd be grateful if anyone could try this with the GOG download and report back on success or failure.
That worked like a charm, fantastich!
I also have a problem with this game.I have no liquidity in Direct3D version and centered gamescreeen like denilsonsa in 3dfx version.

My laptop can resize to 640x480. Why the game is played that way, though, is a mystery to me. Probably something buggy due to old_game+old_3dfx+glide_wrapper+win_7+modern_video_card.

Anyway, it was fun to (re)play the game, even in that small screen.

I've been trying to play on a desktop and I've been having the same issues. Textures keep disappearing, mostly in the same parts. Tried messing with the graphics options and compatibility functions under properties, but haven't found anything fixes this.

Install nGlide 3DFX wrapper and use the 3DFX version of the executable (wish gog would provide it).

Since resolution can be set via the nGlide configurator apart from the actual game, this would also solve the problems of those with a "tiny game window" due to their graphics/monitor not being able to scale resolutions. With nGlide, the native resolution can be set - although stretched on widescreens. If this bothered some people they could chose a 4X3 resolution closest to their native resolution's height (i.e. 1024X768 for a native 1366 x 768 display) and have it not stretch, etc.

That doesn't seem to work for me. It actually increases the borders on most resolutions in the configurator. By default I can get it to run with very little borders if I set it to run in compatibility mode for Win 98, but I still can't get rid of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks to you for your tip - nGlide in addition to using the GCW 3DFX version of MDK is what got the game to work on my Mac through CrossOver.
