Looks like the 3rd reboot posted here in the forums this year.
Lord of Rigel
and
M.O.R.E.
are both vying for the same distinction. Kudos to all of them.

With the company that's behind this one I'm not hopeful at all.

The OP is linking to the "official" reboot by Wargaming.net, who paid $500,000 two years ago for the Master of Orion trademark. Lord of Rigel
and
M.O.R.E.
are both vying for the same distinction. Kudos to all of them.
The others you mentioned are new games, attempting to recreate MOO with a different name. Both of them seem to be stalling, although M.O.R.E. is further along.

It might be fan goggles but I just have a good feeling about it.

Official or not, I find it interesting that 3 different companies have their eye on that particular title to do a remake. Each one specifically states that as their intended aim.
M.O.R.E. has about a 12 month head start on LoR, not to mention they successfully completed their Kickstarter funding drive, so I shouldn't be surprised that they are further along. But tbh, MORE looks to me more like a reboot of Sword of the Stars or perhaps MoO3. In any case, the Kickstarter videos made it sound a lot more complicated than MoO or MoO2... which is probably what will make that title stand out from the others.
The screenshots shown at Lords of Rigel homepage, plus their description of their vision for the project make it sound pretty faithful to MoO2 imo. The UI definitely looks very MoO2-ish. It also looks like they have assembled an interesting international team. They are obviously still in the pre-Kickstarter-pre-alpha phase, but I have my fingers crossed they can pull it off.
What can be said at this point about Wargaming.net's reboot? Well, they own the rights to the originals and obviously have the financing to do it. I'm not familiar with any of the games from NGD Studios. When I look at their trailer, I see maybe the first 20 seconds showing some MoO-ish 2D combat (turn-based, topdown, pentagonal grid, looks like maybe sprites or simple 3D models), and maybe the last 5 seconds showing a galaxy map with lots of wormholes... too many wormholes to be called true to MoO), but the rest of the video I just take as 3D fluff. So I don't know what to make of it.

Why reboot a game that it almost perfect?
I bet that like previous reboots of other games it will just be an inferior game anyway, and probably infested with DRM and monetization as well.

I'm surprisingly fond of the character art, especially about how good the Bulrathi character looks. That is about all I can say however.

While I have bumped MoO3 down the backlog, it is still the MoO I feel is closest to my sensibilities and what I'd rather play. I have not played long enough to notice any catastrophic design decisions and poorly implemented mechanics and AI though. Still, prefer it thematically over the first two games.
