I am still getting the hang of Dosbox and I am noticing the game feels incredibly sluggish when I try to play. You know how when you hover over an option and then move on and it takes like a second for the game to even register you moved the mouse out of the way. Like the mouse itself moves fine, but the game itself seems slow on the uptake. There is also that distinct sound issue you tend to get when a game is running slow.

Is there any setting I am missing that might fix this?

Is this really the SECOND game (Battle at Antares)? If it is, all I can think of is to verify the files and/or reinstalling. That did it for me the only time I had a problem.

Also, in general with Dosbox there are settings you can fiddle with in the dosbox.conf file (in this case it's named dosboxMOO2.conf. The ones that affect how fast the game runs are frameskip and cycles. There's also sensitivity for the mouse but I don't recall that I ever messed with that.

Of course, if you mess with files like this, first save the original setup in another file (like dosboxMOO2.sav) so you can easily go back to vanilla.

Trying to think of other reasons it could run slow.

Maybe the processor does not run at the proper speed? If it is idling, due to the operating system and/or drivers being funny, that would lead to abysmal performance.

That is indeed correct for the first game. 5000 cycles is good but 3000 is s l o w.
