Can I somehow make Master of Orion 2 running in fullscreen mode with the dosbox that came with the game? I can't seem to find anything to configure DOSbox and its settings. I don't really feel like playing in windowed mode since the 640x480 resolution makes the game run in such a tiny window. Should I get a proper version of DOSbox from their site or is there a way to change the settings?

In the game folder there is a DosBox_Readme.

From the ReadMe:
Q: How do I change to fullscreen?
A: Press alt-enter. Alternatively: Edit the configuration file of DOSBox and
change the option fullscreen=false to fullscreen=true. If fullscreen looks
wrong in your opinion: Play with the option fullresolution in the
configuration file of DOSBox. To get back from fullscreen mode:
Press alt-enter again.
I've read the readme file but the problem is that there is no configuration files in my DOSBox folder and hitting Alt + Enter doesn't do anything. The screen goes black for a second and then the game returns back to the windowed mode. The only files I've got in the DOSBox folder inside the game folder are just a bunch of txt help files, 2 dll files and some "dosbox-0.73.tar" named file. I guess the stuff I'm supposed to look for is in that one, but I have no idea how to open or edit the file at all.

I looked at the "dosbox-0.73.tar" and didn't find config filr like i would expect, though there are numerous files name configuration.

the alt+enter works for me. a momentary black scree and then windowed mode. For enter, they mean the return key for the keyboard, not the enter key of the number pad.
dosboxMOM.conf it is probably called
I am fairly computer uncapable, how is it that you get to the dosbox settings?
In most cases, the dosbox config will be included in the installed game folder as dosbox.conf. This is how it is in my install. You can edit this file with a simple text editor and set up your settings accordingly. Sometimes it may be called something else, like dosboxmoo.conf. In this case you have to tell dosbox to specifically use this file or simply rename it to dosbox.conf and start the game manually.
For easy managing of Dosbox there's a windows front end called "DFend Reloaded" at dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net
With it you can setup quite easily the resolution and graphical enhancements, mem managing, legacy sound config etc..
I've been having a similar problem. Alt+Enter is not working and fullscreen in the config is enable. There is an output text file in the directory that mentions that DDraw failed to draw to surface? Seems to be the culprit somehow.

CONFIG:Loading primary settings from config file dosboxMOO2.conf
MIDI:Opened device:win32
Exit to error: Could not set fullscreen video mode 640x400-32: DDraw created surface with wrong size

In dosboxMOO2.conf set fullresolution=original

This will change the system resolution to 640x480 whenever MOO2 is running in full-screen mode. This way MOO2 will take up the entire screen, with no letterboxing.
I had the same problem.
I went in dosbox config and changed graffiks to openGL instead og overlay. Then the alt+enter command worked again.
