Using the "Launch multiplayer" shortcut in master of orion 2 dir anyone who attempts to join me was greeted by "ipx tunneling client failed to connect".

We are unsure what to do as we have read all of the threads related to online issues but while alot of them touch on the subject none of them have a clear solution.

Also ive given this a read too

http://masteroforion2.blogspot.ie/2006/05/dosbox-guide.html

and forwarding my ports dont seem to help :/

Im running the game from a usb flash drive if that help.

yes i tried the method where you go from start menu to gog games to master of orion 2 to network but there is no network folder on my master of orion 2 and i have redownloaded it to try to obtain that, I haven't tried to do all the dosbox stuff because I was hoping i could just do it with gogs 'launch multiplayer" than choosing between singleplayer, network client and network host choices.

I just checked on my install, I do have it there

Do you have:

wherever\Master of Orion 1 and 2\DOSBOX a file called GOGDOSConfig.exe ?

EDIT: You can not run it on its own!

yes i see where the file you said is. what do you mean by " you can't run it on its own". I tried running it, but it says "run DOSbox configurator from start menu", I don't know what to do next.

That's what I meant with you can not run it on your own ;)

So in the start-menu in the MoO folder you do not have a shortcut, labelled Multiplayer?

Which is funny as the underlying program is there....

BUT

you can create it on your own.

Open your folder in an extra window were your MoO is really installed. Precisely you need the folder were your found the file ;)

select it in this folder (so that it turns blue), now with a RIGHT click & drag onto the desktop a short cut of this file.

Right click and select properties.

in the target field:
"D:\Program Files\Master of Orion 1 and 2\DOSBOX\GOGDOSConfig.exe" GOGPACKMASTEROFORION12 NET

The precise path depends on your install ;)

and the execute in:
"D:\Program Files\Master of Orion 1 and 2\DOSBOX"

save the changes

And execute the shortcut and let me know if it worked

1)is the start-menu like the file location with their respective folders like c drive or wherever?

2)i don't see anything in the master of orion 2 folder that just says multiplayer, but launch multiplayer is there

3) i am baffled at this :)

4) what am i trying to do with GOGDOSConfig?

Which OS are you using?

Edit:

Doesn't really matter ;)

Just open the folder were you have MoO installed and found the file and follow the rest of the instructions from BUT onwards ;)

so i changed my "target field" on a shortcut of launch MOO2 to this

"C:\GOG Games\Master of Orion 2\DOSBOX\GOGDOSConfig.exe" -conf "..\dosboxMOO2.conf" -conf "..\dosboxMOO2_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the "start in" ( i think this is the same as your "execute in" is listed as this

"C:\GOG Games\Master of Orion 2\DOSBOX"

is this what you wanted me to do with what you said?

edit:

I get "run DOSbox configurator from start menu" trying to start up the shortcut to launch master of orion 2

Did it work? It shall have opened a window giving you options like
start single
start network client
start network host

And at the bottom start game

oh that, I already have a icon in the folder called "launch multiplayer" which gives me those options. I tried do multiplayer over the network option on the multiplayer screen but we couldn't figure out how to join the game, I think i have port forwarded succesfully, just when we try to connect via the client option on "launch multiplayer" we get ipnx tunnel failed, and or it just doesn't work . i am confused at why I can't get it to join the game on network ( unless network is not internet and modem is ) like I said i am confused, probably not doing something simple correctly
