Just started a new game of MoM in Windows 7. First time to try it the GOG MoM version, I played a lot of MoM in DOS way back in the day.

It looked like it was working fine until I cast Just Cause. At that point I got vertical line garbage on the screen and the MoM window stopped accepting input.

Any ideas?

PS Apologies for the poor subject (can't edit it), it should have been: "Windows 7: MoM crashed on Enchantment animation"

Make sure DirectX 9 is properly installed.

(Run the file and extract it to a separate folder; Then start dxsetup.exe for installation)

Try running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP.
Right-click the game's shortcut, select Properties and set the mode on the Compatibility tab.
Also tick the option "Run this program as an administrator".
Did you create an artifact with an extremely long name (which causes the artifact to have massive numbers of powers) before casting Just Cause? This causes instability in the game save.

If you reload and cast Just Cause again, does the same thing happen at the same point? This can help identify whether the spell seems to be bugged, or if something else might be the culprit.

OK I just purchased this game, also old MoM player, and had exact same issue. Win 7 enterprise. What worked for me was going into settings and turning off animation for spells cast. It still announces that spell is cast, but without the "fancy" animation. I suppose I should try to see if crash is repeatable, maybe next game.
