I have this problem using the mac version of dosbox 0.74 on the 2011 macbook air. It runs slow, especially when trying to access any of the tabs on top. Any settings on dosbox that I can tweak to solve this? Increasing CPU cycles using Ctrl-F12 doesn't help.

Another thing is that since MBA comes without numpads, how do I move diagonally?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

I'm not sure about the performance issue, but is it different depending on whether you're plugged in or on batteries? If so, then maybe you'll need to adjust a processor throttling setting.

For diagonal movement, you can click to move your units which I find convenient much of the time anyway since I'm often moving units some distance and that way I only have to issue the order once.

Thanks for the reply. The performance is the same regardless if it is plugged in, or running on batteries. So i don't think it is a power issue.
I would imagine it's already set this way, but you could check to ensure that cycles=max in the conf file. Then maybe try to disable the sound emulation and such or other features to see if there is a particular DOXBox component that is slowing things down. Maybe the output setting as well, I don't know if there are different options for a Mac, but it might be worth just tinkering in there a bit, like fullscreen or not, the scaler and as a last ditch effort the frameskip too.
