By default GOG makes run dos games full screen. That is "brilliant" decision, since 640x480 stretched to 16x9 FullHD are literally unplayable (I dont even talk about 2k, 4k displays).

But previously we could go to dosbox folder and run GOGDOSConfig.exe - which is really nice UI tool for dosbox configuration, and set windowed mode with whatever resolution and scaling we want.

Not anymore. Now it throws "Run DOSbox Configurator from Start Menu" error. Why GOG people decided to restrict users and make their experience worse is beyond me.

But ok. I went to Start menu, scrolled through dozens position, looking for Master of Magic folder. Found it. And guess what?
There is no Dosbox Configurator shortcut! There is no way run dos config util for Master Of Magic.

So all in all, GOG forced game to run in full screen by default (which is barely playable for most users, I assume) AND forbid to use their own configuration utility so I had to edit config file manually.
I had better experience playing DOS games 15 years ago using d-fend.

What frustrated me most, that couple years ago everything was almost perfect with GOG and dos games, and now It became clunky and bothersome for no reason. Did they literally put effort to make user experience worse?
WHY?!
Am I missing something obvious?

yeah for some reason gog removed the functionally, I would suggest filing a ticket with support.
I perfer editing the conf file myself.
but I get why that would be annoying.

ALT-ENTER turns off fullscreen. If you want to make it permanent, you have to edit the dosbox config file though.

ALT-ENTER will switch game to windowed mode with original resolution - 640x480 for example, which too small to be comfortable on FullHD display. I prefer to set at least 1024x768.
Try changing fullresolution=desktop to fullresolution=1024x768 in the dosboxmom.conf file, it's the third option from the top.
If that doesn't work, Scaler=normal3x should be better than 2x. It's only 960*600 but that's still a lot better than 640*400.

Yeah, In my original post I said that I edited config files/
My point is that previously configurations could be done via GUI utility, which is much more user-friendly and can be used easily by those who are not familiar with dosbox (and that could be even integrated with gog galaxy).
But GoG made this utility unavailable for some reason recently - it is still there in game folder, bur cannot be started.
Yeah, I've just downloaded Clash from Longstone and I've been itching to play it. I tried running gogdosconfig.exe to generate the configuration file but it failed, each time. I get the same error. "run dosbox configurator from start menu".

If this was previously available but now it's not, I don't understand why this functionality was restricted.

It is not impossible that this change was not intended. If so, perhaps someone could bite the bullet and make a ticket and tell them?

what worked for me (using Master of Magic at least):

open the dosboxMOM.conf file in the "Master of Magic Official Release" folder inside the Master of Magic folder - NOT the dosbox folder. Then I changed it to this:

fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=desktop
windowresolution=1440x900
output=overlay
autolock=true
sensitivity=100
waitonerror=true
priority=higher,normal
mapperfile=mapper-0.74-2.map
usescancodes=true

Worked like a charm, opens in a managable window on my 44" ultrawide.
