First of all, thank you @Slitherine for attempting a Master of Magic Reboot.

The screenshots look nice so far & if they stick to the original rules it can probably not go too completely awry. The intro movie is a bit wooden, but maybe ok.

Is there some kind of multiplayer planned? I don't like civilization 6 at all & always play the old SMAC. But if another civ like game - for example Master of Magic - allows me to play with friends that would be great.

You know there are like 8 million (forgive the slight exaggeration) 4X games out there that provide multiplayer, right?

I was happy when I saw they were only giving a facelift to the original intro. I'm not a big fan of the change to hexes from squares, but everything else looks to be more or less just a visual upgrade, so maybe I can live with it. The artwork IS attractive, certainly easier on the eyes than the big blobs of the original. On the other hand, it smacks an awful lot of Age of Wonders, which is not bad, just a bit samey. Wishlisted.

We are meeting once a year in a village at the end of the world & playing LAN/no internet connection.

So, I'm pretty sure I tried most of those games among the 8 million that allow LAN play. But I'm always happy about suggestions.

Have you played Dominions? Even though there are D4 and D5 games, I still prefer Dominions 3. My eyesight is bad and for some reason I get headaches when I try to play 4 & 5.

Thanks for the recommendation! The rules seem nice, but the graphics are a bit outdated. It will probably be difficult to convince my friends to try it.

Try it solo. The graphics have never been a priority for those devs. And there are some frustrating combat rules (you can set up plans in advance -to some extent- but the battles take place automatically while the turn is resolved. You can watch the battle -as many times as you like- but cannot do anything to change it.) But the lore for each civilization is amazing. Magic is interesting. Tactics are fascinating. Also, don't ignore the amazing, old-school manual that comes with it - almost comparable to the Baldur's Gate manual.

Well, that's one possible solution to solve the 'simultaneous turn' waiting for other players to resolve their combat.

Of course I like to play my battles myself, but if the master of magic reboot includes multiplayer, of course you would need an option for quick resolution.

Agreed, I miss the old hexes. I mean I've spent a lot more time on the original Civilization than I have on the other versions combined. Also because they were made too complex. The original idea was brilliant.

Same goes for Master of Magic, the base idea is awesome. Age of Wonders was never close to being the same. I can't tell for certain from the screenshots, but I fear they are overcomplicating the game adding unnceccesary stuff. I'll keep an eye on it though. Only interested in single player.

Well, I would really like to have multiplayer, this would be an instabuy.

Probably, I'll buy it anyway, but adding multiplayer would make master of magic a serious contestor to civilization.

I think it's because you had in the beginning a single guy who designed the entire game. Now, you probably have an entire design team who can't agree on a design philosophy. In addition, some features are added for purely marketing reasons, not because they make a good game.

Even worse, there are apparently people in these design teams who don't really care about making a good game at all & are bored by their work. They seem to rather care about 'educating' players about politics or issues they feel are important.
