I feel like playing a newish game where I can build an ever growing fantasy settlement that is occasionally besieged by enemies. I know of one, There Are Billions, and I will buy it when it is finished and released on GoG, but are there any other newish games like these in the mean time?

Hi FabMan,

Check out Kingdoms and Castles. The mechanics are different, but you build a medieval city and you get attacked by dragons and ogres, so I guess it's fantasy too. :)

Also, Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 come to my mind. Both DK and Majesty are real time, your creature gain levels and you don't have direct control over them, your dungeon gets besieged by enemies. The atmosphere is totally different though - as the name implies. Very dark although lots of humour in it too.

The titles that I haven't played or did years ago and don't remember much, but may be worth checking up for you: Populous, Black and White 1 and 2.

Thanks for this, I have played and loved the Dungeon Keeper games, played and enjoyed the Black and White / Populus games too. I'll take a look at Kingdoms and Castles.

I also remember a game called The Horde I think where you built traps with the community growing while you defended it. I enjoyed that one too.

I always felt there was nothing like Majesty. Part of its charm for me. Though DK does seem about right, less management and more getting involved in my opinion but its pretty close. Nothing recent I am aware of.

You could get into Dwarf Fortress. It's a whole lot of management. You could play it for years and never get bored. It's not nearly as hard to get into as it looks, either.
