The screenshots look very pixelated - what is the maximum resolution that you can configurate? And are there any patches/mods that increase the resolution?
This is a pre-3d card 3d title, so it will be awfully pixelated. There is a high resolution option that ups the redering resolution (hit R) but you'll have to fool with the DOSBOX settings to get it to run correctly, the defaults aren't beefy enough.

If you change

cputype=auto
to
cputype=pentium_slow

you can start the game with all the effects such as sky and reflections enabled by default. You still need to hit "r" for high-resolution.

Finally, after a lot of experimentation checking framerate with FRAPS, I found changing

cycles=20000
to
cycles=80000

offers similar performance characteristics as the default GoG settings when running with all effects enabled and in high resolution.

Did you really notice a difference by changing cputype? I just upped it to 80000 and played fine.
Sorry, I'm not quite sure how to do this stuff... exactly how do I change cycles to 80000 and then run the game?

The cputype change wasn't for speed, it activates the game's Pentium processor detection which automatically flips all the switches for eye-candy graphics settings instead of having to do it yourself. A convenience only.

You have to open dosboxMC.conf with your favorite text editor (windows notepad or download Notepad++) which is in the game directory and make the changes there.

Why "slow"?

xenobrain: cycles=80000
Yup, much faster - but with a price: sound is stuttering! :-(
Thanks Xenobrain, it works perfectly now!

If only one could change the controls now, stupid arrows suck. I want WASD! ;)

Well I for once is happy there, except I want the mouse reversed, I cant still fathom how moveing my mouse downwards equalls it to move up.

But the arrow thingy is due to be being a lefty when I use mouse and I strain my fingers when ever I have to use WASD config.

Dosbox supports custom keybindings with CTRL+F1. WASD has a problem though--the "d" key is bound to fast-forward and I haven't figured out how to disable it for that purpose.

I had this problem briefly with TES1:Arena when I tried to map to WASD. Found out that while I successfully mapped the direction keys to WASD, it also still performed it's original purpose ("A" for draw weapn and "S" for status).

When you use the keyboard mapper, after you map the new key setup, you have to delete the second mapping (using the "next" then "delete" button for that key). Otherwise "D" will have the new mapping AND the old mapping. Not sure why they did it that way but there you go.
I have a quick question regarding the setting of keybinds...

I did the ctrl-f1 thing. Then I clicked w, and when I asked what I wanted to map it to, I hit my up arrow. Did the same for asd. But when I save and exit back into the game, WASD don't control me... what am I doing wrong?
You must also click the ADD button I think.

it's the other way around
so click the up key
and press W on your real keyboard

Very helpful! Thanks! Now it looks really nice :)
