andreasmaureder: It's not necessary... it's just another solution. Overwriting the files in the sounds/MUSIC folder with this files works fine. And they also should work with the soon™ upcoming languages too.
I uploaded the complete Sound FX and Music DTA files for a few reasons: 1> The game stored the music and sound fx this way originally
2> I didn't think file space and/or download speed was a big concern. I thought people would've preferred the original files taken off the CD.
3> It was just as quick for me to upload the DTA files as it was to do a file by file comparison with something like WinMerge.
4> Now that we have a GOG installer I might not keep my retail discs any longer. It takes two minutes to install the game now and it's updated. This beats running the old installer, inserting each disc, swapping disks, patching the game, playing the game with disc in/cracking game, etc.
It does look like that 90MB zippyshare archive contains just the altered files:

So it's completely up to you which method you prefer.
I'm asking people to delete \mafia\sounds\* so the extracted files don't override the original music & sound fx stored in the DTA files. You also don't need duplicate copies.
If you've downloaded the DTA files you also have the option of extracting yourself with this tool:
