I thought about getting this game last year on Steam but I saw the following posted on Steam about online was no longer available.

Online functionality will be retired on October 31, 2020.

Some people were saying that online functions was needed for the game because one of the online functions was for repairing your car in the game and scrap parts.

I just want to make sure that online doesn't change the game or anything in playing the game?

WB Games posted an update a few hours ago but doesn't list anything about GOG.

PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam and Linux Players:

Due to changes with our network, access to certain online features for the Mad Max videogame on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam and Linux will no longer be available beginning Oct. 31.

Affected features include:

No longer able to access the WB Play service to obtain the Battle Brand decal for your Magnum Opus.
No longer able to access Opus War, leaderboards or redeem codes.
Scrap Crews will no longer gather materials. The "A Penny Saved" and "Dividend" non-repeating Challenges cannot be completed and could impact the ability to unlock the "Up to the Task" trophy/achievement.

Offline game modes will still be accessible.

I own this game on Steam, but not on GOG, so can only speak to that effect, but the Battle Brand decal is apparently included with the GOG release. I'm not sure about the achievements on GOG, but you're not going to lose much by way of not having scrap crews. Upgrading your strongholds got you an amount of scrap (currency) up to a certain cap for however long you were offline. It was a nice bonus to have but not nearly as significant enough so as to be a game changer. You'll be able to buy all the upgrades, gear and such without an inordinate amount of effort.

I don't particularly care for leaderboards, and Opus Wars were just time trials of your own car against others with no racers, just seeking to beat their times.

I can't speak for the Up to the Task achievement, it might be adjusted for the GOG release so as to be attainable without the online functionality, but you're functionally not missing anything at all apart from a handful of pocket change scrap.

It's a great game and includes the preorder DLC as well, so I'd heartily recommend buying it on GOG!
I played this game on Steam years ago and I really enjoyed it (more than Batman Arkham Knight, despite the fact I'm a huge Batman fan and both games are very, very similar), I never realise that the game had online stuff then.
I buyed it here on GOG on release day (and again, I'm really enjoying it).
So if what worries you is the possibility of miss something, I think I can say, without any doubt, that you would't miss anything at all.
This is a totally offline game experience, whatever online content it had was the typical absurd additions (which now seem to be mandatory in any game) to compete against others and leaderboards, in the previous comment you got a better explanation of that content (like i said, i never knew about this).
So, my humble opinion is: go for it, it is a really great game, and for the current price is a gift.
Basically, what AdmiralA said above. Don't hold off your purchase because of those online functions, you'll be missing on a great game. The missing stuff barely added anything to the game. You get plenty of scrap just by playing the game. Prioritize the Cleanup crews and you'll be fine.

From what i could find is one achievement is locked forever *Up to the Task* because of the clean up online scrap crew thing. when i found that out i moved on to another game ( also i have cleared all areas so some of the challenges are allmost impossible now..) i have completed all what i wanted and some bugged for me so ehh
the achievements im missing is
Running wild,The exiled, the guardian, the messenger,up to the task, and for some reason complete act 1 achiement have no idea why that didnt activate.but im 88% done with achievements for the first run of the game :)

SKÅL!!!
There's no achievement called Up to the Task. Rest assured, you can get 100% of achievements.

They are talking about the Challenges (and probably the "Up to the Task" Steam achievement), which can't be completed 100%.
There is "Up to the Task" achievement and it can be done. And you can achieve 102%. After few days 100% changed to 102% for me. I don't know how.

Looks like the Up to the Task achievement existed at one point but it was only removed for new players. That's how you completed 102% of the game, because you unlocked one extra achievement in addition to all of them.

Yea looks like they ( gog or the devs ) removed it,now i only need "complete chapter 1" ,for some reason it never unlocked for me even though i 100 % the game.but its good to know that you can 100% the game without any restrictions!.
Just to add, the online functions in Mad Max didnt impact the game directly but had an impact when getting achievements. There is namely one: getting “free” scrap periodically over time.

In Mad Max, there are in-game achievements you can get which increases your rank title which allowed you to upgrade your equipment iirc. One of these achievements is dependent on how much online scrap you got in total. Getting this online scrap just required you to help build scrap collectors in bases and you would get “free” scrap sent to you from the online servers periodically while you played.

You can still do other achievements to raise your rank with some having infinite completions so being “locked” out of a rank is impossible.

However, one concern is that one of the game achievements/trophies (for the console versions at least) is completing all of the in-game achievements (one of if not the hardest trophies in the game imo) and that requires getting online scrap.

If you are an achievement hunter, that might dissuade you but GOG seems to be good at addressing those issues and the Mad Max devs did mention they thought of adding a fix to it.
