heromedel: When a character dies and you are not in hardcore mode what can you do with the character? I wish you could put their body someone so you could possibly resurrect it someday. At the moment it appears my party cannot move due to weight unless I delete the adventurer.
I have just recommended this elsewhere; when you end up overloaded because of a dead character, it is sometimes possible to fix this by drinking a Strength potion on one or more of the alive characters, to reach a high enough carry weight to get you going again until you reach a town with a temple where you can revive the person (assuming you have enough gold to do so).
Edit: Including this since it wasn't obvious to me at first, but was pointed out by the dev in another post: To use a potion outside of combat, you can right-click the character's icon in the party bar and use the potion from there.
It's also possible to revive dead characters IF you are still in the combat where they died (and you must not kill the last existing enemy or you won't be able to resurrect), and if you have a Cleric with the Raise Dead spell. Note however, that casting this spell takes a full round, so if it is "grayed out", it's likely because you moved that turn already, and usually you do need to move to be close enough to their corpse to revive them. A few other things of note - if you don't remember where they died, you should be able to see the red skull icon on the square where they fell (it might show dead enemies too but you can hover over the icon to see which skull is your dead party member), and also, I don't think it can work while another unit is standing on the same square where they died.
I hope this helps someone. :)
