While playing through the game I noticed that only some of the music is CD quality and I can't figure out how to change this. I'm using windows 8 by the way, if that's any help.

Run the Setup program and change music to MIDI if not already so.

Download and install VirtualMIDISynth
http://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth

Download a soundfont. There are quite a few good free ones. I use FluidR3.

SETUP.EXE Isn't working for me, what should I change the compatibility mode to?

You can't; it's a DOS file. You can run it manually through DOSBox, but there should be a shortcut created for you called "Lauch Settings" that takes care of it.

How can I lower the music volume?

I've tried fiddling around with mixer sb and cd audio values but nothing seems to be working for me. (I apologize if I'm being bothersome, I really appreciate the help.)

OK, did you install the game in Program Files, if so, see if you can find the conf file here, rather than in the game's directory
(this is for Windows 7 users, it might be different for 8 or 10)

c:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Little Big Adventure\dosboxLBA.conf.

If that's not the case (and it probably isn't). Try opening the setup program again and changing the music sound to Wave Blaster or "Wave Blaster on Sound Blaster 16 (MIDI)". See if the music is good enough then, (and if the volume can be controlled by opening the conf file)

Also, did you read this thread?

(Sorry I myself had LBA1 installed on an old machine, to which I don't have access now).
