Alright, so I'm on the 9th level I believe. Completely skipped the 8th level I believe hehe But anyway, do the ice lizards respawn here? I've been camping out and killing one or two and then rest, repeat. But if they're respawning... Anyone have an advice on this matter? Am I doing the right thing? Thanks in advance.

They do re-spawn but that is beneficial especially if you need food. Push on through the area and you will eventually get past them and if I remember right lock some gates/doors to keep them behind you. Good Luck - Great Game.
I kind of quit playing at that point, the place where's the weird hallway puzzle (the stepping forward turns you around-thing) and then the lizards after that. I don't know if I suck at this game but the lizards are pretty tough! Maybe I should man up and continue playing.

This game is ridiculously difficult, but I'm really enjoying it. Did you beat it, Lou?

Like Lou says, their respawns are a good source of food. Lizard steaks are about as filling as it gets! The respawn rate is actually fairly slow. Not every 5 seconds or whatever.

Yeah... the part you're talking about is especially hard. There's a cheap way to kill the lizards. I don't like playing this way, but it works.
Lure them towards the front door (the one that suggests you shouldn't go in there). Put yourself on one side and them on the other. Constantly open and close the door, taking jabs at them (or spells, just be careful) as the door is reaching the top. If they hit you, no big deal. Close the door and rest. Ok so this strategy works all sorts of places.

One thing to consider: You don't HAVE to kill EVERY lizard. If you have fancy footwork, you can bypass some. Use the wide open rooms to get around them if they're too close. Just close the main entrance so they don't start wandering the whole level. They really only inhabit the one area.

This is actually what I've been doing :3 But what I'm saying is, if I keep doing this, won't they just respawn? Making this strategy pointless? You guys keep talking about food, but I have around two crates full of the stuff... Maybe my characters are just a little less hungry.

Haha yes I usually have crates of food, (I've even left a crate behind to get rid of the weight), but it seems a lot of people struggle with it. That's alright.
And yeah they will always be respawning, but, like I say, not that fast. And you won't have to deal with that area much. It's pretty isolated.

Yes I did - One of my favorite games last year. It also sent me on an old school Dungeon Crawl kick and I replayed Eye of the Beholder 1, 2. and Three.
Well, gentlemen, I'm afraid I've given up. I got past the ice lizards, and finished two or three other puzzles, but didn't have a skull to complete the last bit... Uninstalled, installed Planescape Torment.

This game was amazing, though, and I will install it again and replay it. Let's hope I'm a bit more prepared next time ^_^ Thanks for all the input.

There are at least a half dozen skulls hidden throughout the game. Arguably the most prized of items if your party has a 'headhunter' traited minotaur chained to it.

Aren't the puzzles in that room random? I thought the game checked your inventory and created the four puzzles according to stuff you have. Otherwise, it could create a situation where it's impossible to advance. I'm surprised to see that's actually the case.

But if you don't have that trait, you most likely won't have any skull and going back to find one (not even remembering where one is) is a game killer, I think.

Edit: ah, I see I necroed this thread. Sorry about that ^_^'

Sorry, I didn't see this post until now :)
No, that puzzle is not random (I don't think any puzzles are). While it's not impossible to advance, it does mean you'll have to backtrack if you don't have the four items you'll need. There's a skull on level 8 in the Herder room (lower left corner of the map - the portal to enter is at the end of the hall in the lower right corner of the map). And, yeah, it kinda sucks to go back, but I guess it's more realistic than having the game hand it to you.

Get some health pots ready - you'll need them!

Yeah, but first you have to decipher the riddles, then either place the items or go look for them. Having to track back through empty dungeons to search for an item you don't even know is the right one is very frustrating. More so when some of the items are class/trait exclusive (I had a few arrows with me because I'm a bit of a hoarder, my only rogue was actually a dagger user). I was lucky to have all four items (plus the one to open the iron door), but do I feel sorry for those who weren't :/ It punishes you, not for your lack of wit, nor your lack of dexterity, but for not having the right class/trait. The item to open the iron door doesn't bother me too much. It's a bonus, so it's fine to be harder and the item itself... well the fact that it apparently does nothing should raise suspicion enough to keep carrying it around with you.

I've already finished the game, good thing I was saving on those tar beads :D And apart from that puzzle, I really loved this game. Will definitely play again sometime in the near future, on hard mode, with a different team and this time I'll get all those damned doors! Missed three of them, eight secrets and one frustrating Toorum letter (that moment when you realise you just found the last of the letters and you only have 15 :( )

Edit: no, really, that first door that I missed is still bugging me. I spent so much time trying to find the answer, just looking at that freaking area that I ran out of food and had to do the next couple of levels relying only on crystals and potions to restore my health/energy. And I had food, LOTS of it. At times, in the wee hours of the night, I go outside to the balcony for a cig, and this is what I think about! IT'S KILLING ME!

Disclaimer: I won't say which level it was for fear of spoilers, no matter how well-intentioned they may be. I'm going to find the answer on my own, it's the only thing that matters to me now. I will conquer that mocking door! Also, I'm embarrassed by how easy it probably is.

Yeah, I definitely hear ya on the frustration of missing a single item! You might want to give some user mods a try. Some of them (like the Awakening of Taarnab by Mahric) completely change the feel of the game.

If you're into trying different parties out, one of my favorite combos is a Human Fighter, A Minotaur Fighter (with Headhunter, of course), and two Insectoid Mages - one fire, one ice (once you get them up to their improved spell (I think it's 13 points for each), switch them to Air for 14 points, just for the Lightning Bolt spell, then switch back to their respective spell classes). Not only can you leave all weapons lying on the floor, but it's a pretty fun and badass group to play.

Thanks, I'll take it into consideration :) I'm giving it a rest for now (playing Titan Quest), but I'll definitely come back to it. Hopefully with a fresh view on those puzzles :P

I've been taking a look at some mods, there are some promising ones, but I really want to do the vanilla game once more, to try to get all puzzles and see how it goes in hard mode. Maybe I'll try that mod first and then go for vanilla.
