Hello! Whenever I try to start up the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 I get the message "sr2.exe has stopped working". I have reinstalled the game several times and even tried to play it in compatability mode, and nothing seems to be working. I have Windows 8.

Try this - go into compatibility on the sr2.exe and disable visual themes and set the mode to XP service pack 2.

Anyone know how to get it to work on Windows 8 64bit?!?
I am using Windows 8 64-bit and only got the game to crash like this once. Sure it was irritating to lose some unsaved progress in the game, but at least it's playable.

Do you get this crash as soon as you enter the game and every time?
Up until now the game had been pretty stable for me, having crashed only once. Now the game keeps crashing once I've reached the ruins of Janos' Retreat. Happened four times now. The most infuriating crash happened after I had spent more than an hour finishing the Air Forge - which has no save points, by the way.

The crashes are also different. The first one I described just like this: drops back to desktop and gets a message "sr2.exe stopped working". These new crashes instead hang up the computer. Even alt+tab doesn't work. Only thing that works is ctrl+alt+delete, then logging out of the Windows session.

Anyone has been experiencing crashes like this? Is there someone using Windows 8 that *didn't* get the game to crash at this point?

I don't want to spend another hour (potentially multiple times) finishing the Air Forge just to have the game crash again on the way back by Janos' Retreat.
I will try the affinity trick for multicore processors described in the sticky topic and post the results here some time later.
I think having done the affinity trick for multicore processors described in the sticky topic may have solved the problem. I was able to get past that section of the game and it has not crashed again since (fingers crossed).

So, Bonjwa, I suggest you try the same. It might prevent the crashes from happening.

1. open the Windows notepad
2. paste in the following

start /affinity 1 /high sr2.exe

3. save the file as sr2.bat in the folder where you installed the game (usually C:\GoG Games\Soul Reaver 2)
4. modify your shorcuts to point to that file
Hey! Sorry for the late reply, lol. I did what you said, I created a bat file. It worked once, I managed to start the game. Later I quit the game and now when I try to start it I get the same "sr2.exe has stopped working" error.
Unfortunately, personally I only have computers with Windows 7 and I don't know of any solutions for your particular problem.
However I will give you the advice tot contact support. That's what it is for after all ;-).

Try to disable Data Execution Prevention setting for the game.
Just dropping in (you won't see me for 2 months now) to say that on another forum someone suggested turning off intro movies in setup. I hope it helps.
Having the same problem, it worked once before then never again. No compatibility setting I've tried has helped.

I have Windows 7 64bit.
