Paradoks: The best solution is the Dreamcast version :), but out of the two - I would go for the PC version. But it comes to preference.

Kamikaze_Tutor: Does the Dreamcast version have dynamic music like the PS1 version?
It does. Among other things - see attached image.

wormholewizards: I don't think GOG have the access to source code of the game, nor the rights to do so. But they can at least make the game run with modern system. Native gamepad and sound crackling are the developer responsibility. Best hope is fan made fix / patch.
This.

Mattyah: For me one HUGE immersion breaker is the effed up music in some key moments. Compare the two (minor spoilers):
PS1

and PC:

In the vids you can also see the difference in graphics.
Wow, this sucks. The PSX version was perfectly fine. :(
Didn't the PC version come after the PSX one? Why didn't they have the same soundtrack?

Keep in mind that Soul Reaver itself was at the end rushed. Eidos didn't let CD finish what they played (for good or bad, it changed the fate of the series)

I'm fairly sure that the PC version of Soul Reaver was likely less further along than the PSOne version. it was released the following month.. just pure speculation and rumoring but i would almost think that perhaps they were scrambling to get the PC version caught up and our the door to meet the deadline. As such they didn't have time to properly implement the dynamic sounds and just stuck to the generic soundtrack layout.

This is further confirmed by looking at the Dreamcast port that was overhauled and made the definitive version of the game. It had all the dynamic sounds and enhanced visuals. But CD had a full year longer to work on it.

It happens.

Look at a more recent game like Ghostbusters. The 360 version got lots of extras a nice menu and cool loading screens. The PC version is severely lacking and is missing things the 360 version has.

Blame publishers and deadlines.
I also was wondering this, which version to get.

With everything that has been said, I'm thinking PSN version might still be the best choice. At least in my case, I'll play it in my PSP. At least from the soundtrack and videos points of view. Yes the graphics are slightly worse, but considering I will be playing in a small screen it should be to noticeable.
about playing on the PSP...

with only one set of shoulder buttons, the games uses the analog stick to make use of the other shoulder buttons.

i think its UP on the analog for both R2+L2 at the same time. i think its RIGHT for R2 and LEFT for L2 on the analog.

makes it a little bit tricker, not unplayable. you can use your PS3 or Vita (does the vita have two sets of shoulder buttons? ive stopped paying attention to Sony)

You can change the emulator controls, I usually use the analog as the d-pad and the d-pad left for L2 and d-pad right for R2 and D-pad down for L2+R2.
I don't know what controls the game needs, so not sure if it's comfortable or not. But since I only have a PSP, I make due.

The Vita only haves one set of shoulder buttons, but it does have 2 analogs.
I played it on PSone, when it was first released. NOw, I'm playing it on a regular keyboard. And, maybe coz i'm older now, but it's easier for me to play with keyboard than with a pad.
