I tried to get the bundle sale but GOG hates my card lol so missed it. I played a demo of the first one when I was a lot younger and it seemed pretty cool. Would anyone like to share some moments with these games so I can get jealous? lol
My opinion is a bit biased, since I've been a LoK fan for quite a long time, now, but I can't recommend these games enough. As soon as you can, be sure to get them.

Even though I like Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain a whole lote, it wasn't until I played Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver that I got seriously hooked to the series. I know the open-world of Nosgoth was already there in the first game, but the gothic architecture, the way better writing and the themes of morality, revenge and time travel Amy Hennig (of Naughty Dog fame) brought to the table when directing Soul Reaver made me like it better than Blood Omen. It went from being a very interesting tale of vampires in a pseudo-lovecraftian setting (something Denis Dyack and the defunct Silicon Knights studio can never get enough of, to the point of being obsessed with it) to a timeless, engaging story that had its own take on vampires, demons, fallen angels and "fallen-from-grace-vampire-demons" that unwillingly become saviors while still trying to trick and fight fate.

The exploration mechanics follow the tried-and-true fornula of the Tomb Raider games so, if you have trouble playing those games, I would stay away from the post-Silicon Knights LoK games -- the ones GOG sells. The Soul Reaver part of the series focuses more on puzzles whereas Blood Omen plays more like your standard action RPG with action-adventure elements (think The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, for instance) and Blood Omen 2 has a greater focus on combat. Defiance was the culmination of the story of Kain and Raziel and aimed at being a mix of the two games, having the puzzles of Soul Reaver and the more fluid combat of Blood Omen. All of the titles are superbly written and amazingly voice-acted so, if that's your thing, you can't go wrong with the LoK games.

Do note that the older games (Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, Blood Omen 2) have uglier graphics and clunkier mechanics than the more recent one, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, so, if you get annoyed by old games, maybe you should start by playing Defiance first and see if the writing and gameplay suit your style. If so, or if you aren't put off by games with early 3D graphics and early 3D mechanics that aren't as "fluid" or responsive as today's 3D games, then, by all means, enjoy them in order of release, since it's the way the story makes the more sense, to me. And, trust me, these games are all about story. If you're going to buy Soul Reaver, be sure to buy Soul Reaver 2 as well, as the first game ends in a blatant cliffhanger -- it ends with a "To be Continued" screen, and Soul Reaver 2 picks up exactly where the first game left off.

These are seriously some of the best games GOG has to offer its customers, and you should get them as soon as you can.

If you want to experience Legacy of Kain Defiance, do NOT play it yourself. The story and atmosphere are great, but the gameplay is f***** up to the core. I'd recommend you to watch a speed run or a let's play.

Blood Omen 2 on the other hand is absolutely recommendable.

I have to disagree here. I think Defiance is great as a game, perhaps simply too much action oriented. Blood Omen 2 however, while a a rather good game from gameplay perspective, fails in every other regard.

I like Defiance, the graphics have aged well and it's fun to play. The only real draw back in my opinion are the horrible camera angles.
I couldn't really get into Blood Omen 2. Maybe I should replay it.

I'd recommend you to do so. The game is not even this long, so you won't be investing too much time...

Actually I'm quite sure it's the longest out of Crystal Dynamics entries. Perhaps SR1 would take more time with 100% completion (I would have to verify that) but it's definitely longer than SR2 and Defiance.

It may be due to the fact that the gameplay is s*** but def feels a lot longer than bo2^^

OK, we get it, already, you don't like Defiance, but there's no need to keep calling the game "fucked up" and "shit". The gameplay isn't "shit", by any means, they just went from a "pure" action-adventure perspective to a more action-oriented one. And, as far as the story goes, it's one of the best entries in the series, definitely better than Blood Omen 2, which you seem to love so much...

I'm really sorry you aren't skillful enough to be able to enjoy Legacy of Kain: Defiance, but, as a fan of the series, I pre-ordered it back when it came out and I don't regret it one bit. The storyline is one of the best, if not *the* best of the installments, it provides a satisfying conclusion to the Raziel story-arc, and the gameplay is most definitely not "fucked up", like what you keep saying. It's way more fluid and responsive than any previous LoK title, Blood Omen 2 included. The only issue I had with the game were the fixed and sometimes odd camera angles, but as soon as one gets used to them, the game plays naturally and with no issues whatsoever. The combat is smooth and there's a sense of progression and evolution, either with Kain and Raziel, the environmental puzzles are good enough, without becoming deviously hard, even though they aren't on par with the previous Soul Reaver games. Plus, it's the prettiest of the LoK games, hands down, and it aged remarkably well.

So, even though I still highly recommend Blood Omen 2, I wouldn't dismiss Defiance, and I think you should give it a second try. Just try to get used to the fixed camera angles, that's the only thing I think is making the game not work for you. The gameplay itself is stellar, there's ansolutely nothing wrong with it.

I already said that the story is good.
And concerning the gameplay, you are wrong, as I see it.
Fighting is repetitive and cheesy. If you want to laugh hard, keep using the smash-the-enemy-in-the-air-move, this way you can play ping pong with two or three enemies, they fly up and down wiggling their arms and legs, it is just ridiculous (sorry). Every enemy can take way to many hits, there is no way of preventing that the enemy also hits you, but that doesn't matter because you have SO much energy and in the end it's just an endless button mashing carnage (I exaggerate a bit here to make my point clear). Just go around some corners and all enemies respawn. Masochistic, it is.
Defiance is one of the only games I've ever played where an automatic camera rotation also rotates the control axes. There are some points in the game where you find yourself unable to proceed simply because this automatic correction of your movement direction makes you run off a cliff again and again.
This does NOT, by any means, feel 'natural' at all.
Let me make clear that this is just my personal opinions and experiences. There is no need for anyone to feel personally attacked (unless you were involved in the development, then you would probably feel insulted...^^).

They are great games, especially the first Blood Omen and Soul Reaver. Despite what many people say on here I really enjoyed Blood Omen 2 as well and replaying it again I can see it hasn't aged too well but that can be said for all the games I suppose.

They need to either remake these games or do a proper follow up!

Okay, so that makes 2 of us. XD

It's gotten so that I'm almost afraid to admit that I love that game.
