I do still have my Playstation version, and while my PS3 will play PS1 games, it would be very nice to have it easily accessible on the PC..

I have all the Legacy of Kain series on PSX and Playstation 2, including Blood Omen 1.

I have bought all the Legacy of Kain games from GOG for the PC, and if they released Blood Omen 1 I would buy it as soon as I knew it was available! There is a project called "Blood Omnicide" where some Legacy of Kain fans are trying to update the games gfx, HOWEVER in order for the game to run you need a copy of the original Blood Omen installed, it is to avoid copyright issues. It is worth a look, a few videos on youtube I think.. but the game will NOT work unless you have the original legitimate version of Blood Omen installed.. so come on GOG please release Blood Omen 1 on PC!

Really hoping that Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain would arrive to GOG at some point. Strange that it isn't available anywhere.

Sony is able to publish the game more easily because the PlayStation version of it was published by Crystal Dynamics back in the day, whereas the PC version was published by Activision with Crystal Dynamics' involvement, which led to the legal hell the PC version of the game still dwells in, today. Though the North-American PSN re-release was handled by Sony Computer Entertainment of America, the European version is published by Square-Enix, formerly Eidos, owners of Crystal Dynamics, who fully own the PS BO: LoK's rights. Re-releasing on PC is a lot harder, due to Activision's involvement in that version.

As to the game itself, though I would definitely welcome it, it's definitely not my favourite of the series. Silicon Knights were overrated as hell, they made a few great games that no one played and then went downhill. Blood Omen is great, indeed, but after a very tiring and frustrating campaign to try and fund a "spiritual successor" to Eternal Darkness, I have to say I'm a bit tired of Denis Dyack's obsession with all things lovecraftian, lovecraftian-horror and all that jazz, a feeling that reflects itself in Blood Omen, as well. In all honesty, I very much prefer the direction Amy Hennig took the series with the first Soul Reaver title, ditching the whole pseudo-lovecraftian crap Dyack keeps trying to push in his games, and creating a lore and mythology that took what was started in Blood Omen to a whole new level. I always liked Raziel more than Kain, and I very much prefer the Kain design they used in the Soul Reaver series and Defiance over the bland "vampire anti-hero" design he had in Blood Omen and, to an extent, Blood Omen 2.

Like I said, it would be nice if GOG managed to get the game that started one of the best video game series in the history of gaming, it makes perfect sense, Blood Omen is, without a doubt, a Good Old Game. But is it essential? In my opinion, no, it isn't. What they did from Soul Reaver onwards is far better than what Blood Omen provided, and as far as I'm concerned, GOG has the Legacy of Kain titles that matter the most.

I'm curious about Blood Omen 2:Legacy of Kain has anyone played it? It doesn't seem to have stellar reviews....

I have enjoyed the rest of this fantastic series and the original game just wondering if the "sequel" is worth playing?

Any news on whether Blood Omen 1 will be added to GOG? It seems very strange that almost the entire series is here, but this one game is missing.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is in publishing hell, lots of stuff involving the defunct Silicon Knights, Crystal Dynamics/Eidos/Square-Enix, Activision and who knows what else. It's not likely it will show up here -- or anywhere else, for that matter -- anytime soon, if ever. Every single project Silicon Knights laid their hands on is a legal mess of some sort, except for the PSX version of Blood Omen, which is solely under Eidos/Square-Enix, hence why it keeps getting re-released on the PSN/PS+.

i think personally from what i gathered, blood omen *WONT* appear on GOG, the only time blood omen gets anywhere on the PC in my opinion is when it is released as freeware (meaning anyone and everyone can share it freely and distribute it legally)

Considering "nosgoths" a complete screw you to the fans of lok, im not going to be in the slightest surprised that if it got released as freeware, infact im waiting for them to admit it, they are holding blood omen back just so they can release it as freeware,

Best bet is probably Emuparadise for the ISO, and ePSXe for an emulator to run it.

Why would you recommend the PS1 version over PC?

Having played both of them, for starters, the PSX version has way better quality FMVs and slightly better-looking graphics. On the other hand, while the loading times are still present in the PC version, they're not nearly as bad as the pulling-your-hair-out-awful ones in the PlayStation Blood Omen.
