I just start with the game and I have the impression that nothing works.

Is there a beginners tutorial somewhere to find out theoretically easy things like:
- How to successfully start a freeplay game? (Well I found: only a certain ares is allowed for starting points. With that knowledge I can proceed, but why isn't that written anywhere?)
- How to build a transporter from a piece of iron? (Research is done so what's missing now? Do I also need a transporter factory?)
- Why does running work stop suddenly? (Seems that it's linked to slower regrowth of plants than harvesting speed?)
- Why does a shop do nothing at all?
- How can I cross a river?

All those things that are - at least to me - not evident but should be explained thoroughly.

The guides are of limited help as they demand things that seem impossible to do due to missing items and things like that...

At the moment it's very frustrating. Better documentation is really required.

I'd suggest that you have either encountered an awful bug or dived into Freeplay mode from the start, without trying Campaign first? Either way, let me try and help!

Press 'E' to open inventory/crafting mode. In the right window, click Transporter to craft one. You can right-click it to craft 5 at once or ctrl-left click to craft 100

>Why does running work stop suddenly?
If you're talking about buildings like Cotton Collector or Lumber Mill, they do stop working while the plants are regrowing. Try harvesting the plants that grow on fertile (green) soil, it boots the growth of plants

>Why does a shop do nothing at all?
My suggestion would be: it has run out of goods? You need to supply goods to the Stores either via Transporter belts or by placing them there manually from the inventory (not the optimal solution though)

>How can I cross a river?
During the early stages of the game, you can build Rafts from Wood and lay them over the river. Later on, you'll be able to research the Hoverboard.

If nothing works, please report a bug by pressing a beetle-shaped icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

Tutorial is available in Campaign mode as well, but I'd agree that it's not yet perfect: that's why this is an 'In Dev' game. It will be more polished in a couple of months, don't forget to update regularly :)

Thanks a lot! The questions was given as examples, however – there are many things that are not really obvious for a beginner.

I went through the tutorials once more now that I was more or less successful in the free game.

Factory 101

In the guidelines, you use „RMB“ and „LMB“ without explanation. Someone not already quite skilled in programming simply does not know what that means. So at the tutorials, you should replace at least the first occurrence in any tutorial with „Right Mouse Button (RMB)“ and „Left Mouse Button (LMB)“.

Guidelines text: „These are compliments of this lesson!“ Do you really mean „compliments“? I would assume „object“ or „subject matter“ or something like that.

Guidelines text: „Switch to the production tab on the crafting panel…“ I closed all windows to get an overview first and then didn‘t know how to re-open it. Maybe insert: „If closed, you can open it by pressing ‚C‘ or ‚E‘.“

Guidelines text: „Remove the apple trees…“ - and how exactly do that if you‘re a beginner and new to all this? Okay, after some time one may (accidentally?) find a solution with the mouse buttons.

Guidelines text: „If you get short on wood, you can get some more in the lumber-mill above you.“ And how should I do that if I‘m a beginner and new to all this?

Guidelines text: „You can get those additional resources by holding RMB on respective nuggets or veins…“ Fine. But there are exactly three copper nuggets and no copper mine (as far as I could find).
Until now, I was not able to solve that problem. So I left the tutorial always without success.


Connecting buildings directly

„RMB“ should be explained, otherwise it‘s fine.


Building tunnels

Guidelines text: „If required, click LMB on the tunnel to set the direction it moves items.“ That‘s not wrong, but my assumption from this description was that LMB would induce a rotation (right, down, left, up). I now understood that‘s wrong, but maybe you could clarify that „direction“ here means upwards and downwards and the LMB toggles between those.


Research

Guidelines text: „Hire some cats of you liking.“ As long as a beginner is not familiar with the buildings, he may miss the fact that he can get fish at the pier (as it happened to me). Maybe give a hint to that.

Guidelines text: „Open your Science labs one by one, place a cat into each of them…“ Does this resemble an earlier stage? As far as I see, the scientists are placed in the labs automatically.


Machine learning 1

Guidelines text: „… and put the goods from your backpack to the Cat Store.“ Sorry, but I really can‘t. My backpack is completely empty and I find nothing to collect into it.

Window text of Polynomial Regression / Neuronal Network: „Sell more goods to gather more sales data!“ Sorry, but I can‘t… There‘s no way for me to acquire more goods for selling. Frustrating… and it means (emotionally) a quarter of an hour of sitting in front of the PC and do nothing then waiting.

Talking about data… why sometimes an „ONLY“ precedes the coin amount?

Guidelines text: „… use those pieces of junk to create a neuronal network.“
I‘m not sure whether I‘m missing something on the map or wheresoever – but I can‘t find the necessary concrete to do that. So I have to leave the tutorial without success.

Well, except maybe… when I check the sales report, I hardly see any sale for 10 coins in the hellbenders shop. So I make quite a deficit if I follow your advice. Is this intended?

And if you consider to add something, you could give a hint about clearing the shop data. I find it useful to start with a new set when changing the customers type(s). (The hint is available in the "Machine Learning 2", in fact.)

Thanks a lot for going through all the tutorials and providing so much fruit for thoughts to us!

By all means, the game is subject to polishing and tutorials should (and will) be reviewed as well. Your feedback points out a lot of flaws in them, we appreciate it a great deal!

I'll discuss with the team when we can start fixing it, but I'd say it's safe to assume that at least the copywriting can be brought up to a more polished state in one of the next updates, maybe even in the closest one (scheduled for release next week).

We have updated the Tutorials copywriting, minding the feedback you've left! Some of the things you've noticed were actually bugs, they should be fixed by now.

Anyway, this part of the game is still far from perfect, but we'll get to polishing it closer to full release!
