coolmanbritt: I think I misunderstood the conversation.
I think I heard from the you guys that
there is a superior D3d exe that is
included in the instalation. I cannot find it.
Can anyone give me the location?
BFeely: I checked, and the D3D version is not in my installation. It is on my CDROM version though.
Is it possible GOG staff (or EA) could distribute the Win95 executable LOLG95.EXE, as well as support files MSS32.DLL and LOLSETUP.EXE? If so, my DirectDraw emulator DXGL can as of version 0.5.5 run the Windows 95 version in Direct3D mode, even on NVIDIA cards. It just needs the following tweaks to work:
Copy LOLG95.EXE, MSS32.DLL, and LOLSETUP.EXE to the Lands of Lore 2 subfolder of the installation folder (example: GOG Games\Lands of Lore 1 and 2\Lands of Lore 2). If you have a Windows 95 compatible CDROM version kicking around, it should be in the INSTALL folder of CD #1.
Copy the contents of the DAT folder to the main installation folder.
Set up DXGL and use its built in configuration program to add LOLG95.exe.
Start LOLG95.exe with the following command line: "(installation folder)\Lands of Lore 2\LOLG95.EXE -CD ."
Go into Options, then Hardware Acceleration.
Turn on Acceleration, then turn off Switch Movie Display and Switch Automap Display.
Game should run quite well now. Tested in Windows 8.1 x64 on a Core i7.
I gave this solution a try, it does run pretty well. I see you have found a few issues with it. Haven't made it very far into the caves but it looks much better than the dosbox version. It is a little choppy in places, any way to smooth it out.
