Heya, fellas!

I always loved LoL1 and I run it regularly, problem is: With some experience the game isn't very long, even if you 100% it.

I never developed a taste for 2 and 3, so I was wondering if you guys could recommend me games like LoL1, preferably on PC.

So far, I know of Grimrock, Star Crawlers, Heroes of the Monkey Tavern, The Dark Eye Games, Fall of the dungeon guardians, Vamporum, and Amberland. The last two I didn't enjoy very much, and not a single of the aforementioned games has the same charm as LoL1.

Can you recommend me some awesome games that are very much like LoL1, I don't care about the era, I just love grid based crawlers like these. And if you do, may I be so annoying to ask why you like the game/what you think might be a downturn in it?

Thank you in advance!

Try the Eye of the Beholder trilogy.

I'd also highly suggest the following:
1) Might and Magic series. Only played some of the 6th game, but it does have (at least somewhat) similar gameplay. (https://www.gog.com/games?page=1&sort=popularity&search=Might%20and%20Magic)
2) Wizardry series, some of them here on GoG: https://www.gog.com/games?page=1&sort=popularity&search=Wizardry

Thx, but the "not really a grid based thing" was always a huge turn down for me. That's one of the reasons I never liked LoL 2 and 3. But I'll give it a try if I get the opportunity, depending how long this corona debacle is gonna go.
Might & Magic 3-5 should be up your alley. They are grid based and from the same time period as Lands of Lore 1.

The same with Wizardry 6 & 7.

All those games have similiar gameplay mechanics. Although I could never stomach Wizardry 6's EGA graphics. The colors and the dithering make it just look ugly.

Yeah, nice, thanks, I never realised that M&M was grid based once... lol.

Yeah, I can see what you mean about wizardry, I feel the same way about it. LoL1 is so effing beautifully made, it really sets a high bar. But I'll definitely check out the older M&M titles, thanks again!
I understand that you are interested in a list of classic dungeon crawlers specially with real time combat, aka blobblers?

You can try:

- Eye of the beholder trilogy. From the same developers but with dungeons and dragons rules,
- Anvil of Dawn
- Ravenloft series, you can play it grid based or free movement, like Menzoberranzan, but the mood is the classic dungeon crawler gameplay.
- Menzoberranzan
- Dungeon Master series
- Thunderscape. Buried deeply in the GOG libray and never discounted, if I am not wrong. It is free movement but party based and very classic in era and crawler gameplay. It is turn based combat.
- Stonekeep from interplay.
- Dungeon Hack. Roguelke, Dungeon and Dragons licence, random layout every game... It is sold as pack under the name Forgotten Realms archives III with menzoberranzan.
- The Legacy
- Elvira series

I know there are more. But here you have very good old titles.

Elvira is more of an adventure than an RPG.
Dungeon Master is my favorite of all the blobbers.

Istar trilogy is real time too I think.
Ishar could be in this list too.
They are expansive blobblers, with open spaces, dungeons and real time combat and grid based gameplay etc.
Available in GOG as a trilogy.
But my opinion is that compared with some of the list, Ishar series are not as good. They have rough edges, more than the rest and some design decissions and interface are too much for a lot of people even veterans. But as I say, they fit perfectly in the list as classics blobblers and with the needed patience they can be enjoyable enough, the story is interesting and the graphics are great for the time.
Thx for all the awesome suggestions, I am gonna check these out! Thx guys!
