It is not possible to enter the whole verse in the screen provided. I only can enter two lines ending with give a pat. When I push "return" I get an error message. What am I doing wrong?

Did you finish step VI first? For step VII there is room to recite all of the verse. It needs to be done exactly as written and one line at a time.

What is step VI?
Is it: pat dough into cookie? If yes, I did finish it.

Yes it is possible you are making a mistake some where along the way during your typing.

It goes like this

mandrake root and hair of cat
mix oil and give a pat
a feline from the one who eats
this appetizing magic treat
