To avoid potential spoilers, I won't say the name, but I cannot get the gnome to accept it. Anything else I type counts as a guess, but when I use the correct name and hit enter, nothing happens, and it isn't counted as a guess.

Any help?
Still don't know what happened, but I started a new game and it worked first try.
If I remember correctly, it is not even necessary to guess the name correctly, because either way you get to the cloud lands anyway. (correct name - magic beans, more points, I believe, vs incorrect name - key to stairs, less points, possible run-in with stealing dwarf)
There are two different versions of the game, which have different answers for this puzzle. Also the bean stalk is an utter nightmare to climb anyway, just take the key and make like frodo.

Depends on how many points you want.

Also in this version only 'backwards-alphabet' name will work.

They haven't put in the SCI remake in the set yet.
My bad, for some reason I thought it was a version difference in the AGI version.

Um, are you sure you don't have it backwards? The "backwards-alphabet only" answer, was added to the remake, because it was too difficult/annoying in the original.

Edit: Oops never, mind, I was thinking of the "other answer" DOH!! (I look like an idiot...)

In the SCI remake you can use both 'backwards' spelling, and backwards-alphabet cipher.
