Just wondering if anyone has purchased this from GOG? If so, do they require DosBox to run or have they been modified by any means? Thanks!
I would be very surprised if they didn't. 4 is a DOS only game, 5 and 6 are 16-bit games, which would eliminate support for 64-bit Windows and the Windows version of 6 won't run on XP without clumsy workarounds. Besides, the games' page shows the DOS dialog images for 6.
Ok, I finally got the KQ IV V VI. And it comes with the DOS and WIN versions. What's strange though, is that I can run the WIN versions V, but not VI. One would think that VI would run before V on XP anyway.

There is not much reason to run the Windows version of KQ5. besides, there area couple of bugs near the end that are MUCH more likely to surface on the Windows version than the DOS. KQ6 has always been a pain on XP. It is possible to run it on XP, but not without issues and it will simply not run at all on 64-bit Windows. It will run OK on 32-bit Vista and probably Windows 7.
Cool, I got the windows version of KQ6 to work!
Kinda new at this. How do you get the windows version to work? When launch it from the shortcut, I think it's the DOS version. The dialog pictures are the low resolution version.

Download VdmSound and install it. Go to your "King's Quest 6" folder and create a new folder called "WIN". Create a "SIERRA.INI" in the "WIN" folder and paste this...
[info]
title = King's Quest VI
cursorview = TRUE
minhunk = 204K
minhires = 375K
audioBuffs = 2
synthtype=highsynth
genmidi=true
audpath=.\
audio=.\
sync= .\
movieplayer=0
Go back to your "King's Quest 6" folder and create a "King's Quest VI.bat" and paste this...
Sciwv.exe WIN\sierra.ini
Now just right click on the "King's Quest VI.bat" and "Run with VDMS".
Creating .bat and .ini files can be done in notepad or any text editor. The extension just has to be changed from .txt to .bat or .ini

That solution of mine is only necessary for XP 32-bit and will have the cursor bug. Vista 32-bit does not need the VDMS solution. I have not tried it on Win7 32-bit. The path that I created for the 2006 VU collection also included another executable that allowed the Windows version to run on XP without VDMS, but the opening video won't play in game.
