I played a bit of Dragon's Lair which is a similar game, and I know sometimes the game just didn't make any sense at all - you just had to do a lucky guess on where to go on next and the whole game consisted of just trying everything until knowing where not to go and where to go and then replaying it and finishing it.

Is this similar? Looking at trailers it doesn't seem like you get many hints on where to go or what do to, is it like a traditional adventure game, where things make sense, or is it more like Dragon's Lair - try out everything until you know in what order to go where? Or is it a mix of both?

This is a really late reply, but just in case you or someone else comes around: It's pretty much standard for the day. You won't really have a clue as to why you're going to the next screen, other than that there's nothing to do where you are so you need to go somewhere else.
