So I am downloading 30GB for the third time. Next time I will buy a game on Steam.

It's out(5 Gb) and it takes mostly 2 days.
Yeah, for all my kvetching about the delays on stand-alone versions, at least they don't take forever.

I guess it's something us non-Galaxy folk will have to get used to, like it or not - just as long as GOG doesn't completely drop support for those things.

Sure, but on Steam you aren't allowed to download an installable copy of the game you bought even once...;) (Steam will install it for you--but no copy of the game you just bought from them will be coming your way.)
Happy with my NON-updated version but still think it is bad business by GOG to not provide ALL patches for download to us non-Galaxy users. Maybe others are more susceptible to stuff like this, but I stand by my own principles. I do not want clients in my gaming and, thus, Galaxy getting what could be deemed preferential treatment is not going to sway me one iota towards ever using it.

Anyway, I will wait until the updates are all over before considering re-downloading this entire game with a classic installer. This is absolutely a great game imo but I find it to be very disheartening how the updates have been handled. It is also very grating that there were apparently already plans for sequels or DLCs or what have you. Next time, how about a complete and relatively bug-free game right out of the box..er, folder? That said, at least on this site we HAVE a folder! No to SCHEME!

Buffchix, out.
It doesn't matter for me that the patch is out - I have to download the whole game anyway again (4th time!, not mentioning the HD texture pack). The patch to 1.4.2 just won't apply. The log says "Error modyfying KingdomCome.exe" and the patch installer freezes after that. I'm an overall very content member of GOG but they are really getting me with this game. :-(
The downside to Steam is patches are mandatory, the 1.4 patch corrupted many playthroughs and Steam regularly corrupts the download files which results in bugs unless you check for file integrity. For me the main draw to for steam is the forums which are much more lively.

I bought most of my games here, but that doesn't prevent me from discussing them on Steam as well (on a private profile to prevent someone accusing me of "not even owning the game"). I just can't showcase my time played and achievements, but probably very few people browse profiles of others anyway, maybe some friends only. But I hope GOG will add more features to the forums in the future.

Private profile does not prevent people from seeing the ownership status.

It's a separate icon by the nickname. Surprised you haven't run yet into people screaming "you pirate!" as soon as you offer any kind of disagreeing point of view due to that...

Thanks for the info, I'm still a noob on Steam. It didn't happen to me so far, most of my posts are just helping and answering questions and people don't care about icons then. And I can always explain that I bought the game on GOG. If it doesn't help, then such person isn't worth discussing with anyway.
