d1scworld: Fortunately I know how to add exceptions. It’s just strange that only this game has problems with AVG. I have tons of games installed and none of them has this type of problem. Maybe this exe does something different so it triggers AVG ? Just wanted to know if anyone has an idea or has looked into this issue and found out why some antivirus programmes register this exe as a threat.
Different AV programs throw out differing numbers of false positives--yes, it's been checked thoroughly--if you think something is wonky about it, anyway, then contact GOG support and let them reassure you...;) I have Defender, for instance, and it sees no problem with the exe. Other AV programs throw out bunches of false positives on differing software--often games, for some reason. What I'm trying to communicate here is the only "problem" you have is that your AV program is giving you a false positive. Such things are *common* to AV programs--Defender throws out the least amount of them than any AV program I have ever used.
I *really* wouldn't waste time trying to figure out what this one game exe triggered in your version of AVG to cause it to spit out a false positive. But, it's your time...;) If you download the game direct from GOG and AVG shows a virus then the only other possibility is that you have the virus somewhere else on your system and it has jumped to the game executable. If you do not think that is the case, then you have nothing more than a false positive. Exclude it and forget it, or just get yourself another AV program--chances are you paid a lot more for the game than you paid for AVG, eh?
Good luck--was just passing on my own experience with these things.
