Colderslave: Do you guys know if there're any plans from the developers to port their mobile version to windows 8.1 or if they'll release a compatibility patch for the old game to help make it more easily running on such systems? Would absolutely love to play this on my tablet!
ddunham: We cannot patch it (although possibly GOG can). We are certainly open to someone else porting the game but have no plans to do so.
Jeez I bet GOG could patch it. Unless Win 8 support is already included?
For whatever it's worth, it runs ok on my Windows 7 64 bit machine, though it is Win 7 Prof. ...Which I got for many reasons including for gaming flexibility since so many games can't run on Win 8 (microsoft doesn't care, they removed a lot of stuff and want you to only play their games). But perhaps the game can run fine on Win 8 - most games that can run on Win 7 can run on Win 8. I don't know which of the things I specify apply to Win 8 and Win 8 on a tablet, since I only run Win 7 and on a pc, but some of it may apply.
Anyway, I have the game's shortcut properties compatibility tab set to Windows 98/ME compatibility. That made the really big difference. Also, checked under that are run in 640x480, disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, disable display scaling on high DPI, and Run this program as admin.
Also, under the shortcut's security properties I noticed that <username>, which has admin rights on this pc,, did NOT have admin rights for this game... so I checked those too (needed to allow the game to run properly).
Also, I don't use "Aero" themes because their prettification scripts interrupt games; I just set up old fashioned wallpaper folders and manually name them as "themes" above "aero" instead.
Gog games and any other older games should be installed on a folder on the C drive that is lowlevel - i.e. NOT UNDER WINDOWS PROGRAM FOLDERS, so UAC doesn't screw things up.
